Aeroexpress contract revised as EMUs go to Azerbaijan and Georgia
26 May 2016

INTERNATIONAL: Stadler Rail confirmed on May 26 that its contract to supply Kiss electric multiple-units to Aeroexpress had now been revised to reflect the financial difficulties which the Russian airport shuttle operator has faced as result of the fall in oil and gas prices, the imposition of international sanctions on Russia and the subsequent decline in the value of the rouble.

The contract signed in February 2013 had covered eight six-car and 16 four-car double-deck 1 520 mm gauge EMUs, but this became unaffordable. Stadler, Swiss Export Risk Insurance and the banks financing the deal have now reached an agreement to reduce the number of trainsets to be delivered to Aeroexpress, provide a grace period and extend the repayment period. The new financing plan is guaranteed by Swiss Export Risk Insurance and Gazprombank

I remember there was a project to close the rail line crossing the center of
Tbilissi, to replace it by a belt railway, so that real estate in the city center
can be made free for more profitable outcomes. I did not hear anything more
about this project after its presentation. Where is it today ?

Looking good! The color scheme is one that has obvious ties to national symbols, is practical so people will easily find doors and is one that'll stay clear even if the train gets dirty. That's good design.

Can't wait for the greater Stockholm region to start getting the same train model in a couple of years (though Stadler aren't calling them KISS here since that means urine in Swedish ).

Scheduling instructions are both in Georgian and English.

Quote:
Tourists who come to the country, are experiencing difficulties due to the lack of stations and scheduling instructions in English and Russian languages. All the signs at railway stations are published only in Georgian.

With the white livery and the red crosses, this train looks too much like an ambulance to my taste...

Completion of Baku–Tbilisi–Kars Railway Project Postponed Again

Reading this thread, I was just wondering what was the status of the BTK
project. I googled, and found this :

Any more news ?

And is there still any hope that the line from Moscow might be operational
one day again ?

BTK railways is almost 85% finished.

Azerbaijan and Georgian sections are ready, only turkish one needs to be finished.

Railways tunnel on Geo-Turkish Border is also finished(hardest section so far)

due to high rate of Coruption in Azerbaijan and Turkey project suffered many times.

railline lays in abkhazia. due to political issues it has no bright future. Deocupation and recognition as a part of Georgia.
