Weather could be better, that's right, although the December was brisk but surprinsingly sunny and April and June are both pleasant months with mostly sunny and warm weather. March and November were disgusting (but that is rather unusual) and now it is simply terrible: cloudy, rainy, hot and humid with 28 degrees during nighttime. This weather won't change for 2 months.

One has to mention that Shanghai is on the same latitude as New Orleans, Cairo or Perth/Adelaide but it experiences four different seasons with some chance of snow in winter.

nice thread. good spots. nice commentary.

i just wish your exposures were better. i would recommend a little bit of photoshop love to give the justice to your pictures that they deserve and maybe a tripod if you dont have one. a few of the nice shots look hand held and a little sloppy. one last little pet peeve, dont chop the antennaes on the buildings. pan up just a little more. just like 1/2 an inch to catch the full building.

but i loved this thread. love victoria island and the mountains with the giant buddha. i could feel the zen from the location.

I will put some of Stockholm up later, but first let's see some of Beijing.

These photos were taken in late August last year when I was visting friends from Germany. Please don't expect a slideshow of Beijing's most famous sights. Seeing old friends again was the main purpose for this trip. Here we go:

First day we spent near the Olympic stadium.

Meanwhile I bought a decent camera and looking at some old photos causes nausea.
The world famous swimming court with Olympic stadium in the background..

We spent the afternoon at a lovely lake with a lot of recreation facilities and some clubs and pubs. Although it's a very popular area, unfortunately I forgot the name of the lake. It's very popular amongst Beijing people and foreigners though.

Sorry - he was without any protection And no ladies swimming aorund...

In fact Beijing has changed a lot since I visited it in 1999 for the first time

1999 - this was roundabout the time, when China's modernization reached a peak and the city's government intended to destroy all old architecture in order to substitue it with modern appartment blocks.

Meanwhile, Beijing people seem to see a certain value in their old architectonic heritage. Some old quarters are currently upgraded to Disneyland-like amusement districts

And the most important thing: the air quality was really shit 10 years ago. It has considerably improved since then....

More stuff from Beijing tomorrow.

I will also put up photos from Xi'an, Urumqi and some very interesting material from small remote towns in Central and Southern China soon!
