Seattle-area Restaurants and Food Culture
Let me start with this article from the Stranger about the black void of our street food culture (or lack thereof):

^Guess I don't get your point, but I'm happy to see the changes being made. I remember when there used to be food carts in Seattle, oh so long ago when I was so so young.

A buddy of mine runs a steak frites cart and says this change cannot come soon enough. Legally he can only run it at street fairs. This city is hilarious.

Korean curb cuisine?!? That is fucking outstanding!
If there's one type of cuisine that Seattle hasn't tapped into enough, it's Korean food. This is a great start. |

Maximus Minimus (pig-shaped Airstream mentioned in the article) just launched yesterday at the corner of 2nd and Pike. Wow, must have been hundreds of people in line over the course of the lunch hour. I assume some type of promotion, but didn't catch wind of it. Must be some killer pulled pork given how hot it was to stand in line for 30 mins +.

I walked by 20 minutes ago, but on the other side of second.
If I can get dinner on the way home, particularly after the Pike Place Market vendors are closed, then count me as a frequent customer of these places. What outstanding news overall. |

Yes, I will chime in as this is great news. One of the fun things about NYC is the street food. Bring it on! Now, if we could just get Seattleites to start jay-walking a little more, we'd be a major player! (is the SPD still strictly enforcing this?, I know they did through the 80's & 90's)

That said, people seem to be jaywalking more especially if someone else is doing it. Ive jaywalked into a couple cops (oops!) but theyve never said anything to me, luckily! I havent heard of anyone getting a ticket in at least 2 years.

And yes, I notice that too Backstrom! It suggests that people wait out of timidness or habit, not because they're against jaywalking.

I used to jaywalk a lot until one of my old classmates got ticketed twice in ONE DAY for jaywalking in Belltown less than 30 minutes! I stopped doing that since then.

I've been following all three on Twitter. Lots of excitement. Skillet had some problems today with their second Airstream.

The thing about jaywalking is that many cities look at this as a public safety issue, as well as a source of additional revenue. But I looked at pedestrain injuries and deaths in many cities, and the enforcement of this law seems to have no correlation with injuries and deaths. Seattle, even with its enforcement over the years of jaywalking infractions, is high on the list of pedestrian injuries and deaths. If, indeed, the enforcement of this is being lowered, I think that is a good thing. Most intelligent humans know when and how to cross a street. Let's put the resources to more important problems.

Portland has much more than burritos. We have a huge number of food carts selling a wide variety of foods from around the world.
Good news for Seattle...street food like the carts we have in Portland do make the city more enjoyable. |

Let's retire our nannies! And on a (not very) related subject, I think people who chose to live under a bridge that is popular for jumping off of - should move. Not whine for and get a multi-million dollar and probably ugly fence.
(I love the theory behind it though - "Oh, a fence. I guess I'll live.") |
