Have anyone tried new delicious hamburger restaurant called The Counter in Ballard Block yet? That restaurant just opened and it is behind Trader Joe's. My boyfriend and I just tried this place for today lunch and we were very impressed with the quality of hamburger and service. That place allows you to do custom on the burger such as size, type of buns, meats, toppings, sauces, how well you want your burger to be cooked, and side dishes. I think The Counter is best hamburger place in Seattle. I have tried some hamburgers on the Seattle's best hamburger lists but I am not impressed with some of restaurants. I urge you guys to try this place. It is not expensive place. The average price is $5-12 dollars for delicious hamburger.

Hopefully there will be these vendors around the light rail stations. Right now the street life around them sucks. Just lots of bums and people waiting for buses (above ground)

Lunchbox Lab, on the other hand, has quite possibly the best burger I've ever had. |

What? I thought it was really neat modern diner style. I like it much better than tacky 50's style diner. |

It may be a "bum haven" but it also is the most vibrant area in Seattle at any time of day. There's a lot of homeless people, as well as a ton of business people, tourists, shoppers, and others. And there already are a ton of vendors around there.
However, IT would be great to get more retail around the Rainier Valley stations and in the plazas of Beacon Hill Station, Mt. Baker Station, and Tukwila Int'l Blvd Station. And every single station should have a little newsstand. |

Blue C Sushi opened recently on 7th Ave in the old New Balance space. I tried it tonight for the first time (at this location) and it was fine. Really handy when you just want food instantly right off the conveyor belt!

If you haven't tried Bakery Nouveau in West Seattle - it's really worth the journey. I arrived this morning just after they opened and wow! so many amazing things to choose from. I suggest going early while the selection is great and there's no line. 4737 California Ave SW.

My boyfriend and I tried that place few months ago. We are disappointed with their food quality and service. We will not come back again.

Whym is now being transformed into Blush. Bad pic but it looks like a liquor permit application on the window so it's another try at a restaurant. I tried Whym twice - the second time was a "courtesy/pity visit" just to make sure it was as poor as I thought. I wish Blush the best.

I tried Night Kitchen this morning. Very high quality, house-made or local food and expensive. I had the $12 omelette which was a very well crafted classic with a few tasty pieces of panchetta and Beechers cheese but not the usual monster portion - no toast, no hashbrowns. The house-made quince muffin was very tasty too - the term muffin doesn't really do it justice as it was moist and dense with plenty of fruit - more bread pudding texture than average muffin.
They have not gotten their liquor license yet and unlike Stella they did not go with the interim license of beer and wine only. Business seemed to be pretty good for the first night as the staff that was leaving was spending time figuring out tips and working out some POS bugs. In short - It's worth a try. After work snack, dinner, dessert, late-night or breakfast. |

On my recent Xmas visit, took my family to an old haunt, "The Wedgwood Broiler", once called "The Sir Wedgwood Broiler". (35th NE near NE 85th, next to QFC). I really like this place because there has been absolutely no attempt to change the place since it opened in the 60's. (Except prices, of course!). The food is simply "American", and still a good value. Waitresses are friendly, but efficient. The atmosphere will take you back to the "modern" 60's, and if you want a good French Dip, Hot turkey sand, or Patty Melt, I recommend you check it out. It may even be worth the drive from outside the neighborhood, where most of the clientele seem to be from. If you are from NE Seattle, this is an original. Take it in, because you never know how long these type of places will last. Dinner for four, with a couple of glasses of wine/beer, under $50, before tip.
