I tried the Swedish pancake breakfast at the Swedish Club of Seattle for the first time this morning. I've wanted to try this for a long time (first Sunday of every month 8am - 1:30pm so you can still go today if you want). Very good Swedish pancakes. For $8 (non-members) you get one red and one white ticket. The red ticket is for the first trip through the buffet line where you're served 3 pancakes with ligonberries and a generous dollop of whipped cream, a small piece of ham and a tiny cup of OJ. Coffee pots and syrup are on the tables. With the white ticket you get a second serving opportunity at the small buffet table where you can get 2 more pancakes.
The club is kind of a time warp back to the 50's or 60's both in terms of the facility and also the friendly Scandinavian people. Parking and table space is tight so getting there early is good from what I could tell. Put it on your calendar! |

Haven't been to the Swedish pancake breakfast. I really want to. crazyaboutcities, you should give Bakery Nouveau another try. They have great stuff. I'm not a fan of their pizza, but they have awesome sandwiches, cookies, cakes, chocolates, croissants and I love their coffee. Not a big mocha drinker, but here, I go for it. Bakery Honore up in Ballard is also spectacular. The ginger biscuit is my favorite. On another note, the new rules for streetfood vending look promising for entrepeneurs and city-dwellers. I talk to some of the folks, one in particular says there are about 40 in the works. Not all will succeed, but we're at the beginning of something new for Seattle food and it's about D**N time!

I'd give it a second chance if anyone willing to pay for it. My boyfriend and I don't want to waste our money on that place just in case if we got disappointed again.

What are the status of new Olive Garden/Red Lobster restaurants supposed to move in Capitol Grill location? Last time I checked, Capitol Grill still there.

The chains will be good for tourists and hopefully increase downtown foot traffic, and maybe, if we're lucky, the people who flock to the chains (who might not have been in downtown otherwise without them) might just decide one day they want to venture to a different, more local, establishment. We can convert them!!!!! |

Yeah. I think downtown Seattle should have good mix of local and chain restaurants. That will gives residents and tourists more options where they want to eat at. Look at some chain restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Changs, they bring more foot traffics to some part of downtown Seattle. That is good thing. I usually eat at local restaurants most of the time and I sometime want to eat at chain restaurant when I am in mood for.

Most people are not adventurous eaters and having some chains/franchises/familiar places for them to go isn't the worst thing in the world.

*sigh* Guilty pleasures. You know you all have one crappy food item that you secretly enjoy, and probably have never let your best friends/lovers know about. Last edited by Capitol Hill; January 28th, 2010 at 01:52 AM. Reason: spelling |

Excuse me, are you talking 'mexi-fries'? Always cracked me up they called tater tots anything other than tater tots. However, half a plastic cup of salsa and one packet of ketchup, you've got yourself a taste treat there.

3 new Seattle places
I noticed last night that the old Minnie's then Whym and now Blush restaurant is open at 1st and Denny. Most the windows were blocked by drapes so I don't know if they're going for the exclusive/you-can't-even-see-how-many-cool-people-are-enjoying-this-place or if it's just empty. (There were some people visible in the bar area that was not shrouded by drapes.) I gotta say that when Whym removed the main entry from the prominent pointy corner of the site - I think they really screwed up. Yeah, it's probably not the most efficient layout in some ways but people could see the entrance from Denny.
A new deli called called Delicatus is opening soon at the other end of 1st Ave in Pioneer Square. From their website it looks like a high-end deli along the lines of Salumi a few blocks away except they're not making their own meats. I don't think I've ever eaten at Salumi but I saw the line waiting to get in when it opened at 11 am yesterday - must have been 15 people! who says Pioneer Square is dead if you have a popular business and limited hours! Bad Monkey Bistro looks well positioned to open just before Amazon staff move-in this year. Located at Harrison and Boren it's right across the street from the old brick building that's part of the new Amazon campus. (street view of bistro building). They're website is worth visiting - lots more details about the floor plan and menu. Warning that the site plays music but it's pretty good music: http://www.badmonkeybistro.com/index.html |

What an odd location for a bar! More odd is the conversion of a building remeniscent of a school administration or an architectural firm of the 70s. Wonder if any alterations will be done to hip-up the exterior as the website makes the place look pretty cool!

I'm thinking of this place along the lines of the Top Pot donut aesthetic. I doubt they'll make it as slick and cool with all the stuff they're putting in their but maybe they'll find the right mix of materials and colors to pull it off without breaking the bank. I hope they have a great designer and contractor to pull it off but it looks a bit on the DIY side of things.

Its nice to see some smidgens of night life in SLU. There's an interesting looking bistro on Dexter Ave N and Harrison called Little Red Bistro. Always seems to be hopping when I drive by at night. Suprising as there is absolutely nothing else in the area.
Pretty cool! Check out the photos here: http://www.littleredbistro.com/ Last edited by CityView Jim; February 20th, 2010 at 06:35 PM. |

Finally tried Marination Mobile - it rocks! Run, don't walk, to try it if you haven't...
Also, the old Olympic Deli on Pine between 2nd and 3rd closed recently. It is now a small Korean place called Yummy Bowl. Pretty decent bibimbap and other dishes for $5-7 They are open 11-4 M-F only and the place was packed last time I was there for lunch. |

Tom Douglas has today opened his new restaurant/s down by the market next to Etta's. They share the same name, but there are two doors. One side has sit down fresh and smoked seafood in the small plate style, and the other side has rotisserie, sandwiches and other quick bites. Can't wait to try both.
Oh, and the name is Seatown Snack Bar - looks like a great addition/extension to the market, and with the VERY nice sidewalk cafes for both, should really help to clean that corner up a bit. Hopefully his Salmon Bake in the park idea will go forward as well... |

Flying Fish was not enough! Now there's a take out option to it just around its corner (Thomas and Westlake). What a clever move! That's how you serve a busy Amazon staff with only minutes to grab a bite rather than sit down:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...y_chris_k.html I guess Tom Douglas is also trying the same at his new Pike Place locale. |

^Indeed a great idea. Other news:
The old Belltown Bistro location has a new restaurant: Belltown Pub. Looks like they gave it a nice update. Hopefully has a good tap list... Also, Japonessa (sushi) opened where Union once was on 1st, and Lecosho (operated by Matt of Matt's in the Market) is opening soon on Harbor Steps. Nice to see lots of new choices despite the recession. Oh, and I tried the sitdown Seatown Snack Bar - way tasty, but way pricey for the portions. Most small plates in the $6-12 range, and you will need at 2-4 per person, plus dessert if you want to leave full. That said, the quality was substantial. |
