Hybrid is a poor concept anyway. The only energy it actually saves is while the car brakes or is in a standstill and that's it. But you have to use more energy to carry the added weight. Nonsense! Though they haven't developed even that concept well enough. It would be A LOT more efficient if they used a diesel engine to power a generator and only electric engines to power the wheels. And that would be much more simple system too.

The day real fuel cell cars made from energy at fuel cell power plants are developed it won't matter how big the car is. We'll only have water as a waste product and the world will be saved (I tell you)!

Except that all the hydrogen to power the fuel cells will come from burning massive amounts of hydrocarbons

Sekundærrute 170 Kolding - Haderslev - Aabenraa - Kruså

The last photojourney from Denmark, before we enter Germany. The route 170 is the former main route through Jylland from Kolding to Flensburg. It is now replaced by the E45 motorvej. Therefore, the sekundærrute 170 is quiet for most of it length, and has some scenic spots along it's route. Aabenraa can be busy with queues since we traverse right through the center of it.

Video: E45 Kolding

A short video of the E45 around Kolding. Lots of truck traffic around there. We see interchange with the E20 (twice) and some local exits. I take the exit Kolding-Syd.

A210-A215 Rendsburg - Kiel

This autobahn is substandard, because it lacks shoulders for most of it's length. Kiel is a pretty busy city, however the A210 is really quiet.

A21 Kiel - Bargteheide

The A21 is a quiet autobahn along the eastern side of Hamburg. It connects Kiel with the A1 to Hamburg, and is mostly a rebuild B404. Sometimes, the A21 isn't even signed on the B404, signs only say A24 and A1. The route is more hilly than one would expect, and it's also a bit substandard, with shoulders missing often.

How am I supposed to think of Karl May when seeing an Indian's head on a traffic sign?

A1 Bargteheide - Hamburg - Bremen - Wildeshausen-West

The last part of my journey went through Germany. I pictured the A1 all the way from Bargteheide to Wildeshausen-West, through the major cities Hamburg and Bremen. This route is a heavy truck route, and at Hamburg, there was a 10km queue of trucks waiting for roadworks. They occupied 2 southbound lanes, i was able to pass by at 60km/h with minimal delay. I estimated truckers had to wait two hours. Some exits were inaccesible because trucks were parked bumper to bumper.

I can't believe we've come to an end. All in all it was a nice trip! I love this exit:

Roadtrip Germany

I had two days off work, the diesel prices were down, and good weather was predicted, all the ingredients you need to do a roadtrip.

I went from Zwolle, via the German A31 and A2 to Dortmund, and then the A45 southbound, all the way to Aschaffenburg in Bavaria (Bayern). Then, I returned, and took the A66 eastbound towards Fulda, where I stayed one night on a campsite. The next day (today), I did leave around 8.30 am, and head northbound on the A7 to Kassel, where I took the A49 (A44 was closed), and then the A44 heading westbound. At Kreuz Wünnenberg-Haaren, I headed northbound past Paderborn and Bielefeld to Osnabrück. Then, I took the A30 westbound towards the Netherlands.

Distance: 1.000 kilometers
Fuel usage: 1:18 and 1:20 (refueled twice).
Hours driven: 11
Stops: only to clean the windshield and have a lunch (twice).
Diesel price: € 1,439 in Germany and € 1,259 in the Netherlands
Costs: 62 euro's for fuel and € 8 for the campsite
Pages read in my book: 150 (not while driving though)

photo's and video's will follow

A45 Dortmund - Hagen - Siegen - Gießen - Hanau -Aschaffenburg

This first journey goes onto the south(east)bound A45, from Kreuz Dortmund-Nordwest to the Seligenstädter Dreieck near Aschaffenburg. Nearly all of the trip includes nice scenery of the Sauerland mountains, but there was a lot of truck traffic (more than I expected!). Luckily, there were many stretches with 3 lanes per direction. There were many steep climbs and descents. After Gießen, the landscape becomes more flat (Wetterau area), and also the road gets much more quiet, since most traffic heads east towards Dresden or south towards Frankfurt/Basel there.
