A66 Hanau - Fulda

The next journey goes eastbound on the A66 Autobahn, from the Hanauer Kreuz near Hanau towards Dreieck Fulda near Fulda (doy). The A66 is partially a commuterroute for far commuters towns from Frankfurt am Main. I was there during rushhour, and it was quite busy until Bad Orb. After that town, the road becomes quiet, and goes through the mountainous countryside. Near Neuhof is a huge salt mine, which is quite an eyecatcher on the way, the saltmountain is over 120 meters high. There is a missing link on the A66 between Neuhof and Fulda for about 9 kilometer, which is currently under construction, and will open in 2013 according to signs.

85 pics of the A66

I would, too, if I wasn't such a poor student with no money
Great work, Chris! A45 indeed has a god landscape to offer! And on the signs you can see between which exits the border of a Bundesland is It's also one of my next planned routes (A3-Frankfurt-A5-Gießen-A45-Siegen-B54n-Wenden-A4-Köln-A3) when I'll have some more money again.

but he will be happy again on friday or saturday, because if nothing unpredictable will happen, i will show him a very nice new crashbarrier on the A48 between Trier and Koblenz which I promised him already in february. And from what I could see from the other direction on Monday, they are still shiny Finally, I managed to drive to Trier via Autobahn this week for the first time since february (sry for offtopic, but radi is omnipresent )

On my route, I noticed that a lot of German autobahns had generally very aged pavement. There were only a few stretches that had actually good pavement, such as the A2 Oberhausen - Dortmund and the A66 Hanau - Fulda.

A7 Fulda - Kassel

A drive on the northbound A7 from Fulda to Kassel. It's an adventurous drive, with a winding road with 2x3 lanes and steep grades till 8%. The scenery is very beautiful, especially around the Hattenbacher Dreieck.

just for completion of "the whole germany is signed"-series

A7 southbound:

Just one important destination thing is missing:
Köln via A5, A485, A45 and A4. I'd rather sign Köln instead of Wiesbaden or Basel. But when you drive from southeast Germany to Köln (must be quite important with 1 million inhabitants ), the first place where you'll find it on a sign via this shortest way is after Siegen on the A45, just 80km before you actually reach Köln.

A44 Kassel - Wünnenberg-Haaren

A drive along the northeastern edges of the Sauerland region, from Kassel westbound towards the ruhr area. This serie runs from Kassel to Kreuz Wünnenberg-Haaren just south of Paderborn, where I exited onto the A33 towards Bielefeld. That serie will follow later.

Funny to see that those curves are in fact much less tight than they seems to be on the pictures.

I didn't take pics of license plates specifically, but they might be visible on pics, however some people don't like it when you're pointing your camera at their car.
