It really is. Pavement on Egnatia is usually very good, and motorways passes through many sorts of landscapes. You can see from it high mountains, hills, islands, plains, lakes, sea. All guaranteed to give you a wonderful driving experience.

Now we are on NR51 that will lead us to Bulgaria. Along it, on some sections, an expressway (vertical axis of Egnatia) is already built, and on some sections is U/C. However, the national road, even when is not an expressway, is quite wide and nice to drive:

Bypass of Soufli:

Panda80 thank you very much for the wonderful pictures of A2 (Egnatia motorway) of Northern Greece!

Just one remark:

-The pictures dont show rest areas. Rest areas dont exist (this is really unacceptable of course) in Egnatia yet. Some of them are unter construction and they have just built some parkings (like the one in the pictures) with toilletes and plenty of space, especially for TIR vehicles. The full rest areas will include petrol stations, restaurants and all this kind of facilities.

Geez what is up with all that graffiti on A2? Almost every damn sign is vandalized with it.

You should come to Athens! Thousands of signs are vandalized not only by graffiti, but also with... stickers of football club fan clubs, political parties, pizza take-aways, locksmiths, anarchists and whatever you may imagine

Quite a lot of signs are totally unrecognizable. As a Greek I feel ashamed of it!

Very nice pics Panda80!
I'm quite surprised some signs are only in English.

I found this pic from my Album from 2007-2008!

Here you can see on on North-Thessaloniki the Direction not Istanbul but for the Countrie TR (Turkye).
I remeber after Thessaloniki they have a sign with distance, but in greek writing Konstntinoupoli or Konstnatinopel, but i dont have a pic from this Sign.
I dont know why YU, the place from this Sign is on A-2 after Thessaloniki towards Langada/Kavala!
Maybe via E-79 and E-80 drive to Serbia (ex-yugoslavia)!!!!

Very nice trip report!

Some of that yellow on green text is impossible to read. Is it really that bad when you drive there or is it just the photos?

No, yellow signs are easy to read, I think is just the photos. Many of them are really dark and not very understandable. In Romania, for vandalizing signs, you will go to prison, what is the law in Greece?
