Slovenia - Paris

I took a few shots. In general, Germany has the worst motorways, France and Italy the best, Austria something in the middle. I mean, Germans are widening their A8 for a hundred years now, still haven't completed it. Driving culture is very low, speed limits unreasonable (old 4 lanes autobahn without hard shoulder without any limits, nice 2X3 with shoulders with 120 km/h...).

French A4 is one of the nicest motorways to drive, low traffic (almost lower then H4 in Slo!), smooth. Austria has bad pavement. Italy has very smooth motorways, with high fence, very safe, tunnels without speed limits.

1. near Udine, Italy. Udine tangenziala is 2x3.

2.

3. first tunnel on A23

4.

5.

6. yup, we're going in there

7. knoten Villach, Austria

8.

9.

10. at this interchage there are always works going on

11. view from a nice rastatt

12.

13. tauern tunnel, still single, after all these years

14. out. unbelieveble, there are always works going on at this place

15. view on the northern side of the tunnel

16. entering Germany

17. shitty autobahn

18. look at that turn at interchange for Innsbruck

19. this is nice.

20. Berlin.

21. again. there is a nice 2x3 section though, between Munchen and Augsburg.

22. trees are cut for widening

23.

24. like a normal road...

25. traffic jam guaranteed at this section

26. I tried to catch Stuttgart.

27. here is supposed to be a viaduct. not some upndown the cheapest variant possible.

28. there are no signs for Paris on A5 (Karlsruhe - Basel) motorway. there are only on the road already after the exit for some villages by the french- german border.

29. Rhein

30. this is the french-german border crossing. works were going on here a year ago.

31. France!

32. still far away, but a nice drive on A4.

There were last time I drove there a few years ago (at exit for Baden-Baden). EDIT: looks like you should continue straight forward for Paris now. And then?

Are you allowed to say that sort of thing around here?!

Nice pics. Particularly crossing the Rhine.

I'm going to Gettysburg for the beginning of the official observance of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War - I need to be here Saturday morning, but have a room reserved there Saturday night. Not sure what else I do. This is just 120 miles, ish, (200 km or less) from here, but it'll be the first time since December I've been out of a sort of corridor between here and my parents'.

Nice road trip Chris! How come you didn't take the Fehmarn ferry one way? You could have saved some money on gas and cut your tolls at the Storebelt in half.

(edit: apparently the ferry is pretty expensive as well, so it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference)

The ferry is 50% more expensive than the detour + tolls. And I wanted to visit both areas of Denmark. I have now driven every kilometer of the Danish motorway network Denmark is so nice to drive through.

I took approximately 800 pictures and made 17 videos. They will be released in the coming days/weeks. Especially the videos require some time for editing. Make sure to check the Danish motorway thread.

maybe it is meant via Strassbourg. anyway, I overlooked that sign you posted, I was looking for signs on my right

just my personal remarks. also it doesn't speak for all the country, just particular motorways.

@hofburg, do you ever go from Nova Gorica to Paris over Ljubljana instead of Udine? It's 13 km longer, but €2.10 cheaper. (if you already have a Slovenian vignette, of course)
