Nice.

I notice the mention of Ringsted. Is that near Ringstedlund, which I believe is the name of the home of Isak Dinesen/Karen Blixen, one of my favorite writers? (Or maybe it's the name of the town.) I've never been in Denmark, but I think that's along the coast north of Copenhagen.

(She's the Meryl Streep character in "Out of Africa" but also wrote some very nice short stories. "Babette's Feast" was made into a movie as well.)

EDIT: On looking closer at your map, I see Ringstedlund isn't near Ringsted, at least if -lund is where I think it is.

In Finland, the the main roads 1, 3, 4 and 7 have been (or will be) replaced by motorways up to 140-180 kilometes from Helsinki. Has Helsinki really gotten 2 km farther away? (I'm not being silly and suggesting they've moved the city! Just that they're directing you along a longer route or something....)

Some of the pics are captured with my son's device, which name i do not remember and the quality turned even lower than the pictures posted already (my DSLR has been damaged and probably is not repairable anymore)

Dobrze.

I'm glad you didn't forget the Bull's Blood* while you were in Eger.

*(I've heard Egri Bikaver referred to in English as Bull's Blood of Eger.)

Roadtrip: Linköping-Stettin

Roadtrip through 3 countries S,D, PL
Distance: 808km and a 4h ferry

Route Map

Rest area at the E4 north of Jönköping

E22 Lund south Sweden. The oldest motorway in Sweden opened in 1953.

Road 108 Svedala-Trelleborg. Roadwork going on due to widening.

Motorbike on Road 108 soon arriving in Trelleborg.

Boarding the ferry to Sassnitz

The "road" to Continental Europe

Tired people, taking a nap after a long drive ?

The Port of Sassnitz, Germany

E22/Road 96 on the island Rugen

The bridge over Stralsund (Stralsundbrucke)

The A20 almost empty on a saturday morning

91km to Stettin (if you choose the motorway all the way)

A small german town close to the polish border

I picked the shortest route 104 instead of the motorway.

Bilingual roadsign

The Polish Border. My first visit in Poland since 1999 and the very first time I arrive with car.

I took a break at McDonalds

The outskirts of Stettin

Arrival in Stettin

Baltic Roadtrip Part 2

Stettin-Swinoujscie

After a brief bicycleride in central Stettin it was time to continue my journey to the baltic harbour-city with the difficult name; Swinoujscie.

Leaving Stettin and going north.

Construction going on in the outskirts of Stettin.

At this time I had set my GPS to my adress on Rugen, Germany. I wanted to go back through Swinoujscie, but the GPS kept pointing back to Stettin a distance of 350km Was there not a bridge over the waters at Swinoujscie ?

Polish Route 10/E65 The motorway Stettin-Swinoujscie has high standard except on one location, a 2km stretch slightly north of Stettin were it was extremely bumpy and the allowed speedlimit was way to high. It felt like my car was going to fall apart. I have never experienced such bumpy poor road conditions on a swedish motorway.

90km to the city I never learn to spell correctly-Swinoujscie

Fotoradar ? meaning automatic speed cameras.

A blue bridge

This must be a new motorway

End of the motorway. Ystad, Sweden has a 7h ferry-connection to Swinoujscie.

Noise-wall to the left.

Ferry harbour

Here is the waiting area for the ferry. Some polish "students" greeted me and gave me a map, explained about the ferry and cleaned my windscreen, although I didnt ask them to do that. Then they demanded money Typical 3rd world behaviour common in Borat-countries.

This ferry is free but on workdays only available for local residents. I was lucky to go on a saturday otherwise I have had to turn back to Stettin. Why cant they build a bridge here ??

So, a visitor can access Swinoujscie only from Germany between Monday and Friday?

Nope, only two ferry crossings.

Because it was constructed by III Reich in the '30s and was not refurbished since then

Bridge would need to be very high to allow ship traffic. A tunnel is planned, but there is a problem with funding.

There is a second ferry crossing on the outskirts available for everyone.

Why does such a harmless behavior bother you so much? Plus, why do you always spell Stettin?

Maybe spelling "Swinoujscie" correctly wore him out?

You think it's normal to have a stanger clean your car windscreen and then demand money for it without you even asking for them to do it in the first place?

Because that's the name it's know under in Sweden?

Do you think it's normal to obsessively post pictures of minority groups on the Internet? And to label other countries as "Borat countries"?

But, of course, since my ancestors, if you go back far enough, were all from the "Borat country" in question....

I can really understand his anger against gypsies, I come from a country where people deal with many problems because of them. I won't comment more about it.

The "windshield cleaning" problem is also common in Eastern Europe, was wide spread in Romania for a time, now not so much anymore. I saw it also in Italy and other places. It's of course annoying. If they at least clean it properly, then be it, but as long as it doesn't happen at every corner.

If I am on vacation I won't anger myself about things like this, I take them as experiences and try to know the place with goods and bads. Driving in Albania for example was an epic experience, for example
