Roadtrip 2016 part 2

Helsingborg harbour

Aboard the ferry

At sea

Scandlines car ferry, takes 20 minutes and departs every 20 minutes.

Helsingör, Denmark red and white signs instead of red and yellow.

The road to Copenhagen and the welcome to Denmark-sign further ahead.

Bikepaths on both sides.

A village along road 6.

Rest area along road 6 with a clean, tidy parking and a well cut hedge. I saw many pro cyclists along this road.

No overtaking on this part of the road. Are those outer lanes for bicyclists ?

Roskilde 27km

Yes, but the L is silent so it's really pronounced Jungby but when you read it slightly reassembles Ljubliana, if you have a vivid imagination.

The trip through Denmark continues....

Roskilde to the left, Fredrikssund to the right.

Roadtrip part 3 - Denmark road 6 >E20/E47

2+1 road narrows at this point.

Entering the city of Roskilde.

Roskilde -famous for its annual rockfestival and viking museum.

Motorway 21 bypassing Roskilde, the road ends at Själlands Odde, where the ferry to Århus departs.

Road 6 to Köge

Turning towards the E47/E20, where a massive roadwork is going on. Time to put away the camera and keep
my eyes on the road instead.

E20/E47 the road eventually splits around here.

Roadtrip part 4 -the E47 motorway

part 4

After Köge, traffic on the E47 lightens up Exit Farö 2200m.

The 1526 + 1726m long Farö-bridges connecting Själland and Falster. Signs warn of strong winds on the bridge
and slippery road during winter.

The sign says transportcenter, I think it's a truck inspection point. The orange emergency telephones must be obsolete by now when everyone has cellphones, but maybe not everyone knows what number to call ?

The Guldborgsund-tunnel

Exit Maribo and a rest area.

Closing in on Rödby and the ferry to Puttgarden.

Nörre Alslev transport center

The sign says "told" meaning toll or customs. I think it's a customs office dealing with roadtax and registration of imported vehicles, maybe it's a truckstop too. I think it looked like some kind of truck-inspection point, where the police can weigh trucks and fine trucking companies for overload.

Perhaps it's a truck stop with customs facilities? I've seen a transportcenter elsewhere too, and they have facilities of a big truck stop, including mechanics and services. For example there is one along E20 at Slagelse and another one along E45 near Vejle.

Rödby-Puttgarden & the A1 in Germany

Some kind of plastic things mounted on the motorway due to an upcoming roadwork maybe?

The very last part of the E47 through Denmark.

Waiting for the ferry in Rödbyhavn. Sometimes there may be long queues here,
but this day we waited no more than 20 minutes.

I have mixed feelings about the new tunnel connection. The tunnel may be faster and
cheaper, but the ferry is more pleasant and relaxing.

Aboard the ferry.

Goodbye Denmark and Hello Germany.

Arrival Puttgarden, Germany

There is a lot of windmills in northern Germany. The A1 Puttgarden-Lubeck is well paved and traffic is sparse
by german standards. The speed limits change frequently between 80, 100, 120 and no speed limit.

Germany-the land of huge road signs.

Distance to Lubeck: 30km

This year I drove as fast as 160km/h, I think it's difficult to drive faster due to poor pavement and dense traffic. It's contradictory that there is no speed limit in a country with heavy traffic, lots of roadworks, rough, bumpy and worn out motorways. In Sweden it's the other way around-sparse traffic and smooth fine motorways-and speed limit is mostly 110km/h.

I will share with you a spectacular and scenic route I took recently in Romania.

Route:

Crossing the Danube by ferry (about 4 EUR for a car)

Port of Braila on one side and the other side of the Danube:

Crossing the small Macin Mountains. Road is good, but passes through many villages.

Such scenic view are very frequent:

A sea of windmills will show up as you get closer to Constanta (AFAIK, there is more installed wind power there than in the nuclear plant nearby) :

And some high voltage transport lines for the windmills energy:

Bonus: the new bridge over the Danube-Black Sea canal that opens a new route south of Constanta:

Thank you for your attention !

Roadtrip part 6 - the A1 to Hamburg

Roadwork ahead.

Time to cut the hedge.

Exit central Lubeck. This old part of the A1 was built by the nazis already in 1937.

Right lanes closed due to roadwork.

Exit Jenfeld north of Hamburg.

The A1 busy with trucks outside of Hamburg. Hamburg has a large port and is Germany's "window to the world" .

Exit central Hamburg. A wellpaved part of the A1. 3+3 motorway but with no lighting outside such a big city.
Stockholm, Sweden has lighting on most parts of its urban motorways.

Roadtrip part 7

A1 -a digital information table and signs saying "marking is missing" on the road.

The 3+3 motorway between Hamburg and Hannover.

At this point the A1 and A7 splits. The A1 turns to the right towards Bremen.

At Soltau there is an "autohof" a nice name for a rest area.

Refueling my 11 year old Volvo.

Continuing on the B71 to Soltau.

This is Soltau - a small town on the Luneburger Heide.

Luneburger strasse, Soltau - B71 turning left to the B3.

Rural Niedersachsen along the B3

Behind a slow truck on the B3

Bergen - many cities in Germany have this name.

Offen

Arrival in Celle

Parking at Neumarkt-Hafenstrasse

Walking to the centre.

Church at the central square.

roadtrip map

The whole trip from Ljungby to Celle

Distance: 863km

Fuel cost: 864SEK/92.6EUR

Ferries cost: Helsingborg-Helsingör & Rödby-Puttgarden: 1245kr/133.5 EUR
My Total travel cost incl. ferries: 2109kr/226EUR

The ferries are the biggest cost, but I could have saved 483kr/52EUR by taking another route:

ViaMichelin suggested route: Linköping-Trelleborg-/ferry/-Rostock-Celle cost (petrol only): 788kr/84.5€
ViaMichelin suggested distance: 881km
Ferry Trelleborg-Rostock cost 6h cheapest dayferry: 838kr/90EUR
ViaMichelin suggested total cost (petrol+ferry)=1626kr/174.5EUR
