![]() ![]() Again shows how partial our budget can be. I can understand about the allocation to the big five, but if they are allocating 100's of crores to Jaipur and Kochi, then why leave Ahmedabad out? And its not as if MEGA was only on paper, we have had soil testing, piling, surveys all done. All planning is done and the deadline is 2015, so what more are they waiting for? Thoroughly dissapointed

Gujarat should 'deduct' several hundred crores from Central Excise and use this for Ahmedabad Metro.
It is called the New Svadeshi Metro! Quote:

What I think is the cities that are in advanced stage of construction or pre-construction have been alloted. In Kochi there is continous work being done on pre-construction, road widening, station site inspection etc., and well Jaipur is far ahead and almost half the work has been done there. Also, I dont think Navi Mumbai Metro has not been alloted in this budget but there even the tendering process for viaducts is complete I believe. Surely Navi Mumbai and Ahmedabad will get a share in the next budget

I don't have any hopes from UPA gov. that they will do anything good for Gujarat.

Proposal for assistance to Ahmedabad Metro rail pending in centre
The Gujarat government has requested the central government for assistance of at least 25% for Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro rail project. “The government of Gujarat has forwarded the Detailed Project Report for Metro Rail between Ahmadabad and Gandhinagar for central assistance to the extent of at least 25% of total cost of the project,” minister of state in the ministry of Urban Development Shri Saugata Roy said in Rajya Sabha in a reply. The Detailed Project Report was prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation LImited (DMRC) for Line No 1 : Akshardham – APMC Vasana, Line No 2 : Ahmedabad – Thaltej(also the DPR was prepared for Line No 1 : Barjedi – Ahmedabad – Kalol and Line No 2 : Ahmedabad – Naroda). The minister informed that a special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Metro-link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company limited fully owned by the Government of Gujarat has been incorporated under the Companies Act,1956 with the authorized share capital of Rs. 200 crore. The minister said that there’s no time limit fixed for the project. |

State seeks 25% central funding for metro rail
State seeks 25% central funding for metro rail
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...w/12397713.cms It is official now. The Gujarat government has approached the Union urban development ministry, seeking 25% central funding for the Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad Metro Project. This information was provided by Saugata Roy, Union minister of state for urban development in reply to a question posed by BJP Rajya Sabha member Natuji Halaji Thakore. Roy said the state government has forwarded the detailed project report for the metro rail project between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The Rs 15,000 crore project will be undertaken in three phases. "The Government of Gujarat has forwarded the detailed project report for Metro Rail between Ahmadabad and Gandhinagar prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited for central assistance to the extent of at least 25% of total cost of the project," said Roy. He added that a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Metro-link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Limited, which is fully owned by the Government of Gujarat has been incorporated. The Rs 1,100 crore first phase of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro rail project is expected to begin this year. Officials said that though the Union ministry has generally followed a model of providing 20% of the cost project as financial assistance, it was currently evaluating the Gujarat government report. As per the request forwarded, the state and Centre will fund 25% each while 50% cost can be raised through loans and other sources. tnn |

First DMRC report was submitted to Gujarat Govt in 2005. Then when Metro was put on the backburner, Central Govt demanded a second DPR, which DMRC submitted to Gujarat Govt in Jan 2011. link
Recent reports that Gujarat Govt is even looking to use state owned PSUs to partner in the project rather than take Central assistance link So was the request to Centre before or after all this? Could have been any time between Jan 2011 and now. Very confusing. |

Going by the general development of a metro system in an Indian city, it seems that first 4-5 years go into planning whether the city needs a metro or not, when that has been done the city usually does need a metro, and desperately. The next 4-5 years go into arrangement of funds for the metro by which time the cost has doubled or tripled from the initial projections. Then for the next 10-15 years the construction goes on which results in even worse traffic congestion. By the time a good part of the metro is done, people begin to think was it worth all this.... That is the sad "Kahaani" of the Indian metro rail.

I think the critical question is 'When are they planning to start?' They are planning phase 1 by 2014 or 2015 (but that was an year ago).
Now they have to wait for the Centre's 25% assistance. |
