Just when you thought Gujarat can't surprise you anymore after the ingenious canal-top solar power plant, they pull out another rabbit:

Mr. Modi must be elected PM for our economic prosperity to get a surge and development of the entire nation to take a priority rather than having petty politics run the nation.
His policies would make us stand us a part and proud as a nation. He would be the man who could make Dr. Kalam's words come true to have our nation become developed nation.
He takes pride in nationality rather than having false praises.
He has gotten a bad rap on 2002 riots but people forget that even muslim community has prospered more in last ten years than the entire history of the nation after independence.
Jai Hind and let us send him Delhi as the PM next elections for the sake of the nation.

Modi for PM but not till 2019. We need him here till then. If he leaves in a year or so, many of Gujarat's mega projects will be unfinished, and who knows how his successor is going to be?

2014 is still a bit early for him. There is still a considerable chunk of our population who will not accept him, by 2019 he will have done enough to be accepted by majority of them (those who appreciate development, at least.)

But, don't you think we should put country before state? I am sure, if he is PM he will strive to complete his dream projects not only in Gujarat, but other states too.

It will be excellent if he becomes PM in 2014, but do you think, realistically, that he has a chance? First he has to conquer his own party, then think about PMship. I honestly dont see him as PM in 2014, but then, this is Indian politics, who knows?

Is India ready for him? People don't realize this, but he set the agenda with infrastructure projects like fixing Guj Electricity Board and the Ahmedbad-Vadodra expressway.

It is only now (AMD City projects) that people especially the Times of India reading crowd is taking notice.

India is much much behind Gujarat and Modi would probably need to go after infra projects like Railways and Power. These are 'bad' because of vested interests and one would expect these people to derail anything he tries.

I said it because you sounded like you had completely lost faith in the project.

The thing to remember is that they are waiting for the central assistance which, AFAIK, has not arrived. All they have currently is 500 crores from the state coffers, which is not enough to kickstart the project.

As it is, Modi is vehemently attacking the UPA govt for the past couple of months, so they wont release those funds very easily.

Projects worth thousands of crores take time to start, funding has to be arranged. It is not a maintenance and repair of road which can be started any time.

Work on jaipur metro is an example. It started with just 200 cr. agree that it is not a big scale project like mega. But still... They can start with 500 cr. its possible.

From the MEGA website, expressions of interest (EOI) for various civil works for the project are due to be in during June.

15 June: 20 MW Wind Power plant(link)
18 June: General Engineering Consultant (link)
21 June: Rolling Stock (link)

There was a Govt of Gujarat conference on urban transport on 26/05/12 (link) so its always possible some more information will filter out over the course of the week.

But IMO looks like it is heading towards a 15 August start date.

I really hope you are right.
Even though I am not from Gujarat, I have some fond memories of Ahmedabad.

METRO would be good for the city specially for Gandhinagar. The road transportation was there but bursting at the seams during peak hours couple of years ago.
