I would like to take you on journey through the one of the most impressive gorge of Slovakia - Veľký Sokol (The Gorge of Big Falcon). The gorge is carved in central limestone plateau of Slovak Paradise National Park like many other gorges in the park. Unlike many other gorges, here are only 2 major waterfalls, but countless order of cascades serried between 300m high cliffs. The gorge is the longest one in the park - this is 2,5-3h tough trek on the top of the plateau through the gorge - in case of high level of water passage can be very difficult or unpossible and gorge is usually closed.
So journey begins ...  Cliffs above the entrance to the gorge  Passing a little spring on the left slope ...  Entering to the part called Kamenné vráta (Stone gate) with high towering cliffs patched with pine trees and grass fields ...  Kamenné vráta (Stone gate)  A side gorge  The first waterfall  Climbing over the fall ...  Looking back down from the footbridge above the fall ...  Aproaching the second waterfall ...  Overcoming of this fall requires to climb up one unpleasant iron ladder  Looking back ...  Passing ancient forests of the gorge ...  Entering the upper very narrow and steep part of the gorge called Róthova roklina (Roth's ravine) ...  Róthova roklina (Roth's ravine)    The gorge starts loose height rapidly ...  The gorge changes to quiet and peaceful valley now  A gentle end ...  At the top of the plateau ... at last!

Come with me to the depths of one forbidden walley - gorge situated in Muránska Planina (Muráň Plateau) National Park. This gorge is called Javorníková and unlike the gorges of neighboring Slovak Paradise National Park, it is inaccessible as there are missing technical aids such ladders and footbridges. The gorge is strictly reservation and access is officially forbidden due to protection of nature ... but I took this tough and risky trek just for you
From the meadow with curving dry riverbed you will reach the narrow entrance of Javorníková gorge ...    Fallen trees are covering the wider part of the gorge, passing over them is really tough and slow ...  One of many side caves in the gorge ...  The gorge is becoming very narrow again and gets even more wilder and steeper ...   Middle part of the gorge is like from fairlytale ...      The first "bad step" of the gorge, you have to take a dangerous traverse above to bypass a fall ...  Caves along a traverse above a fall ...  The second "bad step", after this point is a high rocky amphitheatre where two arms of the gorge meets and their waters are falling down over the vertical and smooth walls ... from this point you have take a long rough scrambling up the right slope until you reach an old forest briddleway that is curving high above the gorge and bypassing that inaccessible natural amphitheatre ...  The briddleway will lead you to the upper, now already very gentle part of the gorge ...  At the top of the plateau where horses are breeding by semi-wild way like on many other places within the park ...  Looking back to the depths of the gorge from the plateau ...

8. Belianské Tatry (White Tatra mountains) - White Tatra mountains as a part of the Tatra National Park represents 14km long, spectacular limestone ridge with average altitude of 2000m (the highest peak has 2151m) that is "sticked" on the granit peaks of High Tatras. The area has some typical karst phenomenas such as caves (Belianská cave is opened for the public, famous for its snow-white decoration), chasms (Mesačný tieň chasm is more than 400m deep), gorges and waterfalls. But it is also a srict nature reservation with European significance and unfortunatelly, the ridge is frobiden for the trekkers due to the protection. Nobody can officially admire the breathtaking views from the both sides of the ridge: to the west on majestic granite peaks of High Tatras which are generally 400-600m higher; and to the east on long traditional village of Ždiar that is laying more than 1000m deeper than the ridge, uder the steep limestone cliffs and slopes.
