Karst plateau Dolný vrch in Slovak Karst National Park - this plateau is divided by state border on slovakian and hungarian part and it is covered by ancient oak woods. Dolný vrch has the highest concentrations of sink holes and abysses within the whole park. Fairytale woods of the plateau ...    Old pasture ...  Obria priepasť (Giant's abyss) ... this 100m deep vertical shaft with dome at the bottom is recorded on UNESCO World Natural Heritage list since 1995   Drienkovská priepasť (-57m)   Kravská priepasť (Cow's abyss)  Inside a small cave ...

Silická planina (Silica plateau) - the largest one within Slovak Karst NP, even with 2 remote villages on the top and many famous caves and abysses which some of them are recorded on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list. Typical countryside on the top of the plateau ...  Fields and pastures close to Silica village ...  Silická Brezová, village on the top of the plateau ...  A mysterious sinkhole ...  Woods close to northern edge of the plateau ...  On the northern edge of the plateau ...  Silická Ľadnica ice cave (110m deep, 1100m long) - it is a real natural miracle - UNESCO Natural Heritage site ... even in the middle of the hottest summer you can find here ice sculptures hanging from the roof and lighted by a daylight ... a little more further, there is 2000 years old floor icefall falling into the dark depths of the cave ...    Bezodná Ľadnica abyss (-67m)    Malá železná priepasť (Small Iron abyss) ... I wouldnt jump there as it is 142m deep vertical shaft   Veľká železná priepasť (Big Iron abyss, -55m)  Veľká buková priepasť (Big beech abyss, -162m) with a great dome at the bottom inhabited by huge colony of bats ...  Another smaller abysses dot the plateau ...

Majda-Hraško cave near Silica village - this small cave (20m deep and 60m long) was once a cult place for prehistoric people of Kyjatice culture (1100-750 BC) related to human sacrifices and ritual cannibalism. At the bottom of the cave, bones of sacrified young people were found together with another unique, despite scary artefact - dancing mask made from face part of human skull - similar artefacts were found on Papua New-Guinea only!! The first entrance to the cave is narrow abyss leading directly down to small dome at the bottom called Svätyňa (The Sanctuary) where artefacts were found ...  The second entrance is much bigger but collapsed and blocked by boulders in present ...  The cult dancing mask is currently displayed in Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology in Liptovský Mikuláš ...

Horný vrch plateau - this is the second highest plateau of the park (600 - 800m), covered by meadows and thick woods full of deers. Soroška pass divides Horný vrch from Silica plateau on the west and Zádiel gorge separates it from Zádiel plateau on the east. Horný vrch is not so famous in terms of caves and abysses, but there is a strong prediction of giant, but still undiscovered cave system. On Horný vrch plateau ...    Sink hole ...  Couple of deers ...  Natural compositions on the top of the plateau ...    Woods of Horný vrch ...     On the eastern edge of the plateau ...    Southern slopes of Horný vrch and ruins of Turňa castle behind ...  Hrhov fishponds and Dolný vrch plateau from southern edge of Horný vrch ...

MALÁ FATRA Mountains - this not very long mountain ridge is one of the most popular National Park in Slovakia. Such small and compact mountain area shows amazing geological masterpiece within Western Carpathian mountains - the park consists from 2 different geological parts: smoothly modeled main ridge from granite covered with dwarf pine fields and meadows full of mountain flowers terminated at Veľký Kriváň peak [1709m]; and from wild and white part built by dolomite and limestone covered by ancient woods where impressive craggy peaks such as Veľký and Malý Rozsutec [1610m, 1345m] dominate together with system of narrow and steep gorges called Janošíkové Diery eroded in the slopes of these peaks. The National Park is very rich in terms of flora and fauna - it is home for wild animals such as brown bear, wolf or lynx.

MALÁ FATRA Mountains - Jánošíkové Diery gorges ... this system of dramatic gorges eroded in dolomite and limestone part of Malá Fatra mountains is the most visited area within the national park. They are named after one legendary historical figure Juraj Jánošík - slovak version of Robin Hood. We can recognize 4 independent gorges there: Dolné Diery, Horné Diery, Nové Diery and Tesná Rizňa gorge.
