It is too big for its context though. Its fat/wide and not at all elegant. We're not desperate here and we can hold out for something better.

Nothing will be elegant with the combination of development requirements, height restraints and profit.
Or maybe people here can do better?

I seriously wish I could at least have a go! A bit late to change my degree now though..
Someone needs to make a computer game, sim city style, where you get to design skyscrapers taking into account: Footprint, height restrictions, aesthetics, profitability, eco credentials, urban form and its relation to the surroundings, budget and so on. Or just buy minecraft and go nuts! |

Well judging by the graphic they both look a decent size. I'd estimate around 150 meters? So insted of one 149 meter tower we could get two

Looking at the sortlisted for the walkway, seem that the promenade plantée in Paris has finally be recognised for it's inspirational features.
But let's face it, that's London, and by mid 2012, the twin towers will be 20 storeys shorter and the walkway an already forgotten dream.

What the designers seem to have forgotten is the Paris Promenade plantee was already in existed as a elevated rail line, not something artificially created.
How about removing the gyratory and putting the park at ground level, not simply keeping the problem that blights the area?

He also accepted that the provision of new jobs and homes, including at least 20 per cent affordable provision, would be significant benefits. He recognised that the design of the tower was "of high quality" in many respects and would not have an unacceptable impact on the setting of the Westminster world heritage site. However, the secretary of state voiced concern about a lack of public open space, play space and pedestrian routes through the site in Vauxhall Bondway Ltd's scheme. He also decided that the tower would be "overbearing" in its impact on the immediate area. |
