Hermosillo's origin traces back to 1700, when several villages were founded on lands previously inhabited by Native Americans.

The official foundation of the city comes in 1741 by orders of the Viceroy of New Spain, Pedro de Castro y Figueroa, duque de la Conquista, to create "El presidio de Pitic."

In 1783 it came to be named the Villa de Pitic, but on September 5, 1828, it was renamed Hermosillo in honor of general José María González de Hermosillo who in 1810 fought for the independence of Mexico in the state of Sinaloa[citation needed]. On April 26, 1879, the city was named the capital of Sonora, and that declaration was confirmed in article 28 of the state constitution, written on September 15, 1917.
As of the census of 2005 there were 641,791 people living in the city of Hermosillo and 701,838 people living in the municipality of Hermosillo. It is estimated in 2008 that Hermosillo's population was of 1.09 million people.
Weather:

The weather is extremely hot, sometimes exceeding 45 °C (113 °F) in the summer. The record is 48 °C (118 °F),[citation needed] which has been achieved several times, most recently on July 10, 1998.[citation needed] Winter in Hermosillo goes from very cool to cold in January and February, its lowest temperature, −4 °C (24.8 °F), was registered on January 13, 1971.The lowest temperature in 2007 was −2 °C (28.4 °F) in January-December.
It's a small city, compared with the rest of the other capital cities of the northwest of México, but is constantly growing in infraestructure and people.

Come here, take a cold drink and enjoy the small city but with big dreamsin the sun

EXCELENT THREAD.

Hermosillo is indeed a beautiful city....its' architecture is unique. Overall the city is great...i'd just like to see more of it's skyscrapers...and of course a little bit more of its avenues and other urban zones.

Just a small detail by the way...El Paso, Texas is also considered the Sun City...So I would really recommend you guys to change the name of the thread...just to avoid complications or trouble with other people, specially from the U.S.

Regards from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Ok, i'll take your order and serve

... but i think we don't have a lot of skyscrapers... but i'll put the photos...

About the Sun City knickname, it's not something like "official", it's just that, a popular name. I'd thinked to change the thread name to "the litte big city in the sun", or "Walking in the (city) of sun", or something like that...
and i don't think that the friends of El Paso will not be mad to share the knickname

Don't feel bad, it happens all over the world, in some areas deer and bears roam on the outskirts of cities. If you check my posts you will see that I include lots of animal life in the pictures.

The best steak I have ever eaten was in Hermosillo in the Motel La Siesta on the northern part driving to Benjamín Hill.

¿Have you checked the pictures of Hermosillo?, I included in the forum about México. I have visited almost all the towns of the great state of Sonora.
