Overwhelmed by Oneworld's frequencies, but they, like Air New Zealand, continue to fly from Oceania to Europe via Hong Kong.

HK, Myanmar discuss resumption of direct flights

YANGON, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Express airline is coordinating with the Myanmar authorities for relaunching Hong Kong-Yangon direct flight, local media reported Saturday.

A delegation of the Hong Kong Express is seeking international ticket sale agent in Myanmar for the move, said the Voice.

Although the Hong Kong Express airline flights to South Korea and Japan can bring passengers to Myanmar, it hardly obtains full passengers in its return flight from Yangon to Hong Kong, the sale agent was quoted as saying.

The Hong Kong Express once flew the Hong Kong-Yangon route twice a week with a 164-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft starting November 2007 but it was halted after about four months.

Still earlier, the Myanmar Airways International (MAI), a then joint venture between the state-run Myanmar Airways and the Region Air of Singapore, flew the Yangon-Hong Kong direct flight but was suspended afterwards for market reason.

For a time of absence of Yangon-Hong Kong direct flight, passengers traveling between the two destinations had to transit through Bangkok or Guangzhou.

Hong Kong Airlines confirms Gatwick for London flights

Hong Kong Airlines has confirmed that it will base its flagship London to Hong Kong route out of the newly renovated North Terminal at Gatwick airport.

Starting March 8 the carrier will operate the daily flight HX876, departing Gatwick North Terminal at 2130 and arriving in Hong Kong at 1805 the following day. Flight HX875 will depart Hong Kong at 2350, arriving back in London at 0555 the next day. Tickets for the service will go on sale in December.

As recently reported (see online news November 9) the service will be served by a dedicated fleet of three specially configured, all Club class A330 aircraft. The aircraft will be split into two cabins with 34 full-flat Club Premier class seats and 82 cradle style Club Classic seats, with each cabin having its own bar.

Gerard Clarke, General Manager UK for Hong Kong Airlines said: “The concept for the all Club Class aircraft will provide passengers with a private jet style ambience and an exceptional crew to guest ratio, and we are confident that we have the right knowledge and experience to make a success of the new all Club Class daily service.”

This is the latest in a series of announcements from long haul carriers moving into Gatwick, such as Air Asia X’s Kuala Lumpur route (see online news October 25) and Vietnam Airlines’ Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City services (see online news June 20).

Interesting site. It's the first Chinese-Asian carrier to feature an almost avant-grade style of branding. Club Premier reminds me of the newer configurations found on OZ's Quatro Smartium Seats, TG's new A380 J-Class, etc. I'm curious to see what the Club Classic one will end up looking like.

港航乘客霸機大報復
2011年11月17日(四)

Key points : HX 752 from Singapore to Hong Kong, carrying 143 mainland Chinese passengers, were stranded in Singapore due to mechanical failure on Tuesday night. They caused a commotion at the airport, which required police response. The delay lasted 6 hours and the flight arrived in Hong Kong at 5am Wednesday. Angry at the delay and lack of food service during the delay, 3 tours of 81 passengers refused to leave the plane. After 5 hours, they were compensated $1200 each and disembarked.

Hong Kong Airlines pays for delay
2011-November-18 08:53
Shenzhen Daily

MORE than 20 members of a Shenzhen tour group have each been paid HK$1,200 (US$154) in compensation for the nine-hour delay of a flight from Singapore to Hong Kong.

The flight operated by Hong Kong Airlines was scheduled to depart Singapore on Tuesday morning, but did not leave until Wednesday because of a mechanical fault, Thursday’s Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

A tour guide said that during the long wait at the airport, the airline did not give a clear explanation for the delay or provide food for the 143 passengers including tour groups from Shanghai and Chengdu.

At one stage, police had to intervene to stop a physical confrontation between airline staff and passengers.

“When the plane touched down at Hong Kong airport, the airline offered each passenger HK$400 as compensation, which was rejected,” the tour guide said.

The three tour groups refused to get off the plane and demanded more compensation.

The tourists from Shanghai and Chengdu agreed to HK$1,000 in compensation because they were in a hurry to transfer.

After further negotiations, the airline agreed to pay each Shenzhen tourist HK$1,200, the paper said.

Airbus Wins Order for A380s From Hong Kong Airlines
January 06, 2012, 8:41 AM EST

By Andrea Rothman
(Corrects to add dropped decimal point in first paragraph.)

Jan. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Airbus, the world’s largest passenger-jet maker, won a contract from Hong Kong Airlines Ltd. for 10 double decker A380s, valued at about $3.8 billion at list prices.

The planemaker plans to deliver the first A380 to the Chinese airline, backed by HNA Group, in 2015, Kenneth Thong, head of corporate governance and international affairs at the carrier, said in an interview today. Airbus spokesman Stefan Schaffrath declined to comment on orders in advance of a Jan. 17 press conference.

The orders lifts Airbus’s A380 backlog to 188 planes, amid doubts surrounding Kingfisher Airlines Ltd.’s ability to proceed with its planned purchase of five A380s. The Indian airline has reduced flights and in late 2011 deferred delivery of its orders, which include five Airbus A350-800s, 15 A330s, and 24 A320s, to preserve cash.

“We’re in constant communication with Kingfisher but as always, we can’t give details about talks with customers,” said Justin Dubon, a spokesman for Airbus, by telephone from Toulouse.

Shares of Kingfisher fell the most in three weeks today after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India requested that it provide a recovery plan following financial and safety audits.

“I don’t see any significant deliveries coming over the next couple of years for Kingfisher,” said Kapil Kaul, the Indian director for CAPA Centre for Aviation, which advises carriers. “Certainly not this year, not next year, though if the airline’s performance improves Airbus should be able to keep the planes in the backlog.”

The Hong Kong Air order hasn’t yet appeared in Airbus’s order and delivery figures on the Internet. It will bring Airbus’s order tally for A380s to 27 won last year, when the manufacturer also signed contracts with Japan’s Skymark Airlines and South Korea’s Asiana Airlines Inc. for six each, and a further five for Qatar Airways Ltd.

Hong Kong Airlines Received the allocation of traffic rights between Hong Kong and Taipei and Kaohsiung
Date: 2011-12-30
Press Release

Hong Kong Airlines Limited is pleased to announce today (December 30, 2011) that the company has received allocation of traffic rights between Hong Kong and Taiwan by Transport and Housing Bureau of the HKSAR Government. In accordance with the provisions of the Air Services Arrangement, Hong Kong Airlines Limited can operate passenger and all-cargo services to Taipei and Kaohsiung with immediate effect. Hong Kong Airlines will launch four daily passenger flights and all-cargo services with 650 tonnes per week on Taipei or Kaohsiung routes, starting to operate in the first quarter of 2012.

Taiwan is one of the fast-developing passenger and cargo markets in Asia, with continued strong and fast-growing demand in the tourism and freight industries. The new allocation of traffic rights not only provides Hong Kong and Mainland passengers with a wider choice and enhanced convenience, but also lays a strong foundation for developing the third runway at the Hong Kong International Airport. This will further develop Hong Kong’s position as a leading international traffic hub. Hong Kong Airlines looks forward to the development of Taipei and Kaohsiung routes taking the airline to a new chapter.
