Guys, does anyone know, is India's premier Management Institute XIME (Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship) opening a Cochin Campus?

I saw this video of unveling foundation plan of one XIME-Kochi... Is it the same XIME as of Bangalore or Chennai? Can we have some big news to cheer?

Or is it any local institute? Guys, any updates/info, pls share here.....

This is one great news for Inforpark , this would help to create the next set of leaders in Infopark. I feel this news is really bigger than start of a new company in Infopark, as this would help all the companies in the park and added incentive for infopark employees who want to do their higher studies. great going ....

True! This is a big news. Also Kochi is really emerging as a B-Schools hub.

We have SCMS, campuses of AMITY, IIPM, ICFAI, apart from other colleges. Now IIM-K & XIME on the anvil!

Well, I rule out IIPM out of the elite list, as I personally feel its a big scam in educational sector, all over the country..... They are just relaying on mushrooming trends and appears to be big..... But never a biggie or a name to be worth... May be their Delhi Campus might be the only to qualify as an institute.....

Amity is somewhat better, though it has miles to go in Kochi..... You missed our Rajagiri which is now aiming much bigger. Perhaps its one institute that has been built on strong foundations and capable of becoming a full fledged university (ofcourse NAAC has accredited both Rajagiri and SH as potential center for excellence and recommended for Deemed University status).

Rajagiri is a quality institution and now it has 3 Management schools within Kochi

1. Rajagiri School of Management (MBA Affliated to MG University) which itself is of 2 blocks (One as aided scheme- the only Aided B School and One general)

2. Rajagiri Business School (PGDM and Research Center)

3. Rajagiri Center for Business Studies which houses one of South India's oldest Personnel Education center- The MHRM degree and International Business

-----

Equally Amrita School of Business has a full fledged campus in Kochi which is a well known institution of repute across South India.

Likewise CUSAT's SMS is South India's first MBA college and India's 3rd. Even though in general CUSAT rankings have come down, the SMS is still considered as one of the best in South India. In event of CUSAT upgrading into IISER, the SMS can be chalked out to form an independent Management university.

Now with IIM-K and XIME along with proposed Smart University, Innovative University and Maritime University, the management education scenairo is bound to leap.....

Great Kochi Go!!!!

Land row on Maharaja’s campus resolved

Quote:
KOCHI: The Maharaja’s College issue regarding the handing over of land to the Brahamana Sabha has been resolved. District Collector Sheik Pareeth told City Express that as no ‘puramboke’ was found on the campus there is no question of handing over of the land to the Sabha.

“I will meet the college authorities on Tuesday,” he said. “We are happy with the decision. The voice of the college and the public has been heard and now we can plan more development activities,” said Rasheed, district general secretary, Government College Teachers Association.

“Our efforts have paid off. We were planning to organise meetings and human chains to fight the forces who were trying to take over the college land in the name of development,” said SFI district general secretary Antony John. But other issues hamper the development activities of the college. The office of the Deputy Director of Education, KWA’s pumping station and Kerala History Association office at Maharaja’s College mar the campus and its ambience.

The college which has NAAC’s A plus status wants to better its infrastructure but it is running short of space. “The place where the Revenue Tower stands belongs to the college. A heritage building stood there. It was the principal’s quarters. Since the principals belonged to local areas, the place was turned into the Chief Justice’s quarters. The new quarters came up 15 to 20 years ago,” said some old students of the college.

"Many rooms in the Revenue Tower are vacant and the government can shift the offices on the campus to the Revenue Tower and the space can be utilised for educational purpose," said Rasheed. The plans of the KSEB to build a mini power station on the ground is another issue. Besides, another portion of the ground will be taken by the Metro Rail for a station is being planned there,” said a few teachers of the college.

“This is a very old landmark and has to be conserved. The DD office, the KWA room and other occupations should be shifted from the campus,” said Sebastian Paul MP and chairman, Maharaja's College Land Protection Committe. The Collector said: “I will discuss the matter with the college authorities on Tuesday.”

It would be better to post such articles in the discussions rather than here. It has nothing to do with the education sector in Kochi, a bare land issue!

ഐഐഎമ്മിന്റെ സാറ്റലൈറ്റ് ക്യാംപസ് കൊച്ചി ഇന്ഫോ പാര്ക്കില് തുടങ്ങും

Satellite campus of IIM-K to open in Infopark. 12,000 sq. ft of space taken up for the project.
5 acres of land to be taken in Infopark for the International Standard campus planned.
Intended to attract foreign nationals to Kochi.
40 intakes in 1st phase, to expand it to 120 later.

Protest at Cusat

Quote:
Cochin University Protection Forum staged a march here on Tuesday against the government move to dissolve the existing syndicate bodies in various universities across the State. Sebastian Paul, former MP, said in his inaugural address that the UDF should not disband the governing bodies of varsities to protect the interests of religious and communal forces trying to commercialise the higher education sector.

During eariler UDF Period, there was a proposal to start IIT-Madras's satellite unit, particularly high-end research in areas of Marine/Geology technology, Bio-engineering, Photonics/Laser etc in Kochi..... I wish the govt revives that project back, making more options in our city.....

Free nutrition for school kids

Quote:
KOCHI: Around 25,000 students in Vypeen can participate in the ‘Amma Than Bakshanam’ scheme, soon to be launched as a part of the intense education development programme ‘Velicham.’ This nutritious noon meal scheme is an initiative of MLA S Sarma. The programme, inaugurated recently, will be implemented from December 1.

According to the sources, although, the government has been providing mid-day meals to the school students, the scheme does not support nutritious diet plan. Therefore, the students will be provided nutrient-rich food items under the latest scheme. The school will provide the necessary items. “The specialty of this scheme is that the food will be prepared by the school’s Mothers Teachers Association. Parents will take the responsibility of preparing the food in shifts,” said Arun, headmaster, Government UP School, Vypeen. ‘Velicham’ aims at improving the educational standards of students in both academic and co-curricular activities in government and aided schools. It also focuses on helping students to face examination and live a brave life by boosting their confidence.

The programme is being introduced for the first time in Kerala in Vypeen constituency which comprises 55 schools. The programme was inaugurated at the St Mary’s High School, Vallarpadam, by Rev Francis Kalaraickal recently. District Collector Sheik Pareeth inaugurated another scheme, which meets the basic requirement of the schools. This is a project worth Rs 4 crore, said the sources.

Centre says no to Cusat upgradation proposal

Quote:
The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has turned down the State government proposal to upgrade the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) into an Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST).

Confirming the development, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb told The Hindu on Wednesday that Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal had made it clear that the State could not be given both an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and an IIEST.

Mr. Sibal revealed his Ministry's stance when the Cusat's upgradation was taken up at the discussions held with the Cabinet delegation in New Delhi on Monday.

Mr. Rabb said that the State never wanted to lose the prestigious IIT project and hence could not exert further pressure on the Union government to give its nod for the upgradation of Cusat.

Lack of funds

The Education Minister said that the Union government would not be able to fund both the IIT and IIEST projects simultaneously.

He said that the major chunk of investments for the IIT project will come from the Centre.

The State has to provide about 600 acres for setting up the IIT.
He said that the IIT project would be implemented as part of the 12 {+t} {+h} Plan Programme. It will come up at the land already identified in Palakkad, he said.

Cusat upgradation was listed among the key projects taken up by during the two-day visit of the State Cabinet to New Delhi.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) government had taken up the proposal immediately after it came to power. The government had also conveyed its desire to upgrade the university into an IIEST.

But the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had informed the MHRD that Cusat should be upgraded into an IIT and not an IIEST.

A section of the teachers and employees had also opposed the Ministry's move to provide the framework of a National Institute of Technology for the proposed IIEST.
