That's a cool project! So has the construction started now that the border dispute is resolved?

It looks like a nice, modest project, unlike the impossible fantasies I see in Africa sometimes. I suppose this will go along with the new port?

Yep, it's gonna be next to Doraleh port. That area is gonna turn into a city by itself if all these projects are carried out.

Yoniii, construction hasn't started (didn't hear it), welcome to the legendary Djiboutian slowness.

Awesome! Ras, you posted this in 2009 and still no construction? lol

It doesn't seem like one of those enormous proposed projects thats all talk, this could easily be done.

When Eritrea won its independence in 1991 and brought a regime change to Ethiopia, it gave Ethiopia 100% free access to port service. Prior to independence, the vast majority of Ethiopia's port service was being used in Djibouti, even though they were occupying Eritrea's ports for 40 years. Why would they do that you say? The answer is simple. Pior to Ethiopia annexing Eritrea and gaining ports that didn't belong to them, all their infrastructure was built to handle port traffic from Djibouti ports, which it had been using since Ethiopia was created in 1889. And contrary to what you think, Ethiopia hardly pays anything for Djibouti's port service, the UN and western aid agencies put up the tab.

Even if the psychopath dictator in Ethiopia is killed and Ethiopia stops occupying sovereign Eritrean territories, Eritrea is still more than ready to give Ethiopia free port service. Eritrea never profited off of Ethiopia's historical landlocked status. Even when Ethiopia annexed Eritrea, they still acted like a landlocked country and used Djibouti's port service.

I see...But if peace comes back between your 2 countries someday, you should make use of your ports and make the Ethiopians pay...That'd be great for your economy. Assab and Massawa would benefit from it and Djibouti wouldn't have monopoly over Ethiopian cargo...There shouldn't be no such thing as "free" between 2 sovereign nations, make full use of your strategic location
