Thanks! They did a fine job over there.

You could say sth about photos instead of this nonsense
Few thousands doesn't make a difference, right. But 700 000 does (according to wikipedia too), so it's a well known fact that your agglomeration is not the biggest one.

Photos are great, as always. Congrats.

Very nice pictures. I particularly like the old ones.

Was Katowice/Kattowitz a part of Germany at the time those pictures were taken?

I'm surprised that Katowice looks so clean and bright. My bad opinion about this city was only a prejudice. Sorry =]

I always though Katowice was a city with a lot of commie style architecture. These pics prove me wrong. Looks like they have finally started pouring money into renovations in that city. And the modern architecture looks quite nice too.
It's the rebirth of Poland.

Very interesting city with great architectural heritage! Mickiewicz highschool and this one are my favorite buildings in this thread so far.
I would like to see something of Katowice's industrial areas as well!

According to Wikipedia Upper Silesian Metropolitan Region is biggest anyway.
Warsaw aglo has about 2,5 mln people when GOP has circa 2,7 mln people

sources:
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aglomeracja_warszawska
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOP

Of course, we can argue where are the borders of those aglos. For example, to get from Bielsko-Biała to Katowice it gets about 40 min (it's about 60 km) when from Wilanów (one of Warsaw's districts) to Warsaw's CBC it gets also about 40 minutes (but it is only about 10 km...)

Now we cannot say which one is biggest because Warsaw is still developing very fast when GOP is in decline. We can continue this conversation in 2020

Slonychips - great thread, please continue it! Show us Tauzen, Nikiszowiec and Koszutka

Warsaw agl. has 3 350 000 (look here on the right http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warszawa) & GUS stats confirm that. We'll continue in 2020

It depends how many area did you add to Warsaw's aglo. This algo has (according to Wikipedia) 3,1 mln inhabitants on the area of 8638 sq km with the density about 350 people/sq km, while the whole Województwo Śląskie has higher density (377 people/sq km) and 4,5 mln people. So, should all Województwo Śląskie be an aglomeration?

In Warsaw's aglo is powiat grójecki - it's about 60 km from Warsaw (with no highway or expressway) - if we want add to Katowice's aglo town 60 km away from Katowice we had to add Kraków, Bielsko-Biała, Częstochowa and Ostrava in Czech Republic
