yeah, it looks warped....yes i thought there was something going on in that building earmarked for the Jardin appartments site. So no more Jardin? I thought that was just put on hold, as a representative (architects or agent) I forget but still have his email) anyway I asked someone earlier this year and they mentioned it wasn't cancelled just put on hold (they had been given a particular time frame for it to be on hold or something)

Hotel tower for west CBD ![]() Central Perth will have a new 16-storey hotel next to the Perth Arena in Wellington Street as part of the emerging $2 billion Link development, going some way towards alleviating the long-standing dearth of hotel rooms in the city. The tower is also expected to have a range of eating and drinking venues and shops at ground level with offices and possibly apartments above, with other floors devoted to the hotel. The roof level will be a feature, possibly with a cinema, restaurant or green area. Behind it, next to the railway line, a second tower of up to 16 storeys will appear and is tipped to hold shops and a leisure centre. The two sites are being released by EPRA as the next step in the development of the western end of the Link that will finally connect the Perth CBD with Northbridge. It is calling for registrations of interest in the sale of the two premium mixed-use sites that cover more than 4000sqm. The main site, known as Lot 2, is 1495sqm and will house the much-needed hotel or short-stay accommodation units that are expected to benefit from growing tourism and the concerts and special events held at Perth Arena. It is between the Perth Arena and Channel 7's defunct Perth Entertainment Centre and is close to major offices, Northbridge, West Perth and public transport and freeway connections. EPRA chief executive Tony Morgan said they were very keen to activate the street and Arena forecourt near the hotel site with cafes, restaurants and small bars. "That is consistent with some of the best examples of city development around Australia and the rest of the world," he said. The mixed use for the site that allowed for shops, offices and residential apartments provided a bigger opportunity to ensure the hotel was successful. "It is now typical of what you find in some of the best hotels," he said. The rooftop will have a novel focus. "People look much more carefully at roof spaces now and occupy them with green parkland or hard roof terraces where people can enjoy food and generally view the city," Mr Morgan said. The hotel is considered an essential use of the site because of the growing shortage of rooms. EPRA and Tourism WA commissioned a study in the past year that showed Perth was ripe for more hotels to be established in the city. "There hasn't been a hotel built for some time," Mr Morgan said. Chairman of Tourism WA, Kate Lamont, urged major hotel developers and operators to register their interest for the opportunity to secure the big sites in the premium location. "There is research showing Perth is in serious need of an additional 300 rooms per year for the next 10 years to cater for current and expected growth in tourist numbers," she said. "What we need now are quality hotel developers and operators to provide something quite unique that will add to the work of EPRA and Tourism WA in putting Perth on the map. "We would hope to see keen national and international interest, particularly from across the Asia-Pacific region." The site neighbouring the hotel block is Lot 3A, measuring 2630sqm, and is at the northern end of the Arena forecourt. "As you come down Milligan Street, you will see through to this building of 16 storeys," Mr Morgan said. It will sit on a podium and is set to include a leisure centre with gym and pool to attract city workers. "It is basically trying to modernise this part of town and provide things particularly for the younger professionals who work in the CBD," he said In addition to the two new towers, almost one third of the area will be dedicated to public space such as wide boulevards, public squares, alfresco areas, shade and public art. EPRA's Link project will reconnect the city centre with Northbridge for the first time in more than 100 years. "The project will provide a very generous pedestrian connection from the Link hotel area across to Northbridge," Mr Morgan said. "A very wide promenade runs up and over the railway line with landscaped spaces and water coming down." The project is expected to create more than 1650 dwellings housing more than 3000 residents and 244,000sqm of commercial space for about 13,350 workers. Demand for short-stay accommodation is expected to grow with the success of WA's resources industry. Projects such as the $50 billion Gorgon and the $11.2 billion Pluto LNG project are among those expected to boost corporate and tourist accommodation levels. The two sites will be sold by EPRA in a three-stage process - call for registrations of interest, expression of interest and request for detailed proposals. The formal expression of interest process will start early next year and be completed by the middle of the year. |

This reminds me of Ducktales for some reason.
It has a cartoonish quality to it.

two things I seen today.
One: fence has been taken down on Wesley Church but theres still some tape around. Two: across the road from GPO theres a big steal facade thing gone up. I didnt see the smaller buildings around st martins which I wanted to! also I found out why The Sunday Times got demolished, I run into one of my mothers friends who works there, they all got shifted into the building behind the sunday times and they demolished the front building, they are now constructing a new building at the front which is going to just be another Sunday Times building which she said it should be finished this time next year
