Just park at Broadway and walk into uni. I only ever got fined for staying over the 2 hour limit once.

And 50m from the 97 bus stop on Fairway. It's ridiculous. acc: This is accomodation for students near uni, so they don't have to drive in.

Oh missed that bit. In that case it's extra unnecessary.

i don't many people would like to eat along roe street... roe st will still be a busy road even when tha footpaths are narrowed... what i hope will happen is that tha larger vacant lots are developed similar to 140w where ground level has laneways and then commercial tenancies or resis above...

The south side (more than the north) is going to have a massive wide pavement area and the overall treatment is going to be like what will happen on Wellington St (slowed traffic, lots of crossings, tree-lined boulevard type thing). It's definitely the plan to make Roe and Wellington the two main east-west pedestrian routes and have activated frontages, seating, heaps of trees, alfresco dining etc all along them.

Sounds great in theory - hope it works in reality. They are actually predicting that the two roads won't carry the peak load traffic and that people will forced onto other streets! It's deliberate and while there is some discussion of opening the outer lanes on Roe (then to be used only for parking!) for peak traffic that is not the initial plan and only a last resort.

I'm pretty sure there isn't 8 bays for every 10 people at existing University colleges/accommodation on the other side of Stirling Highway.

This is exactly what meriton was producing in Sydney 15 years ago (in the burbs). They have moved on and doing somewhat better now. Given the same amount of time Perth will also do better. It's too easy to predict what will happen here in almost every way (as much as people hate to admit it)

Finbar should hopefully move into larger projects when the time comes but I think they are on the right track at the moment. Keep pumping out the density (and the solid returns) on projects like this and slowly build expertise doing larger projects like ABC and Fairlanes. Eventually as available sites in the city run short and project approvals are streamlined they'll be doing 200m+ towers.

It would be terrible if Finbar went the same way as Westpoint, Saville or any of the other developers who have overstretched themselves with massive projects and ended up going bust.

I'm wondering how it has approval to be demolished and rebuilt in an admittedly sympathetic style.

Anyway, here are some pictures of its history....

The original building, owned by tobacco manufacturers Michelides, around the 1920s....

The new building, which the Heritage Council says was built between 1922-1934 in the style Inter-War Art Deco...

As Peter's Icecream c1984 (don't know when change of ownership occurred)...

As Tony Barlow outlet, stripped of many of its art deco features and painted horrifically....

Would love to see a restored facade coupled with a new tower ie w140. The new building design is kinda shitty.
