No surprise

most corporates just wear the uniform because they have to

It was probably the opening of a big movie like Harry Potter or something.

If it was Harry Potter, I'm sure the kids were consoled during the movie by the demonic possessions, sexual references and gang-related murder...

my guess is she didn't even bother to snap at those out-of-control kids by telling them off... if she had, she wouldn't have bothered writing that crap.

that reminds of tha game 2 weeks ago when i ran into my ex after tha game and i went all weird... walking thru tha crowd, these teens were rushing and pushing their way thru and one of them bumped me... i fvckn lost and snapped "can you not push! excuse me!" tha whole area around me just stopped and people looked at me. lol.

Quoted for truth.

on a somewhat related note, it amazed me that we took so long to get allocated seating in australia. we had it in singapore for at least a year or 2 before i moved to perth and i moved in 1997.

I'm thinking she took them to Hoyts as they don't do allocated seating for normal sessions, even if you buy online.

I'm also thinking that could be partly why they've recently put up those 'Please queue up here' signs and barricade poles - so those who have waited and were there earlier get the better seats. However, it still doesn't really stop other people pushing and shoving once the 'Cleaning in progress' sign is taken down and everyone's allowed in.

Greater Union have allocated seating though.

Not sure about other cinemas.

ah ok fair enough. yeah i only see a couple of movies a year and the last few were at greater union which had allocated seating so i assumed they all did.

her gripe is probably justified.

They used to have allocated seating in many parts of the world 30-40 years ago. I am also surprised why they don't do that here all the time. They've probably done some research and may be they lose potential customers that way (who knows)

As for the pushing and shoving. That seems to happen every now and again. It only takes one person to get the ball rolling and within seconds everyone's doing it. Even if you're at the front of the queue you have no choice otherwise you'll be overtaken by them. It's every man for themselves. Although not good if you have kids.

I know for a fact you ain't that old, samby

But in regards to losing customers, there might be some truth to that. Quite a few people I know don't like to purchase their tickets online - they prefer to wait in line. I still am not really sure of the reasoning behind that (unless of course they do not have a credit card) because queues at Hoyts, especially on a Tuesday, can be ridiculous.

The line was out the door a couple weeks ago when I went to see The Proposal. However, I think that was a result of school holidays + Ice Age III.

haha yeah close enough

I may be wrong but I didn't know allocated seating was only for online purchases. You can just turn up and select the seat on their computer screen. I've done that at Innaloo but may be it's different elsewhere.

It is available for all purchases at Greater Union but the incentive for buying tickets online would be getting the pick of the better seats.

You have no choice either way at Hoyts, even if you go there 45 minutes before the movie seats and queue up.

yes but if people behind you are shoving there's nothing wrong with stopping and giving everyone a spray.

I've only ever done allocated seating (other than gold class) in Melbourne. When did they bring it in here?

They do it at all Greater Unions. It's an option not a requirement.

Just saw a really interesting segment on ABC's Sunday Arts about Perths Reface project. They had interviews with some guys from ololo and some others in the condor carpark and mainly focused on the projections they did on the duxton hotel and the Perth concert hall.

I'm sure it will be available on iView (abc.net.au/iview) tomorrow.
