The area now being enclosed by hoarding is massive. This will be a big site and a big development. Nice to have something to watch in these straightened times!

Weren't the plans for student flats replaced with "townhouse style" dwellings, as they don't look very townhousey.
Is that supposed to be the corner of Stretford Road and Royce Road or Stretford Road and the Parkway? |

Taken from the link:

I hope the university haven't watered down their plans in a misguided sop to Hulme's vocal contingent of crusties who would object to anything being built on that site.

This is GB Group's last student accommodation effort in Bradford:
![]() None too pretty yet similar to the optimistic render

At least the render promises larger windows, it is some comfort at least.

True, looks like they'll nicked the cladding idea from Student Tower. The seemingly random layering of various materials really is the refuge of the architectural scoundrel though. It's a clear admission you've built a dog.

Terracotta panels have become the new cliche for a lot of university/student buildings I'm afraid.

It could be OK, it could be cheap and nasty. Be thankful to the local hippies for one thing, the retention of the trees they campaigned for might be this schemes saving grace.

Disappointing. I'd hoped they'd be trying to drag the city centre down Stretford Road, but in reality the scheme has lost its ambition and leaves Hulme the failed nearly place it currently is.

Sorry. Pictures taken at dawn 22/12.
This one is now above ground and there is plenty of activity across the site. This give the Mancunian Way a different feel, as you enter the city and really help to fill out Hulme.

I think you guys are getting things confused.
The building under construction now will contain the MMU Faculties of Education, Health, Psychology and Social Care. Would post a image but don't know how to - but just check the MMU website. This is a bigger building than you think and will really add massing as you come into town past the site. Completion Summer 2014. Capex, I think, is circa £135m, that will give you some idea of the size. That's more than the Business School cost last year. The townhouses, flats etc will follow. |

I think the student bedrooms are taking up too much of the site myself.
