It's because Kwara is primarily a Yoruba State, what happened was that the Fulani invaded the land and imposed an Emir. Till today there is still an Emir and there are many Muslims.

The Fulanis wanted to colonize Yorubaland and they move southwards, they took hold of Ilorin and the city had its first emir in 1831.

The Muslims in Ilorin are very much like the Muslims in Ibadan, they were not exposed to the initial wave of Islam.

That's why they are different to the Muslims in the north.
