Calavera's weekend trips: Varna & Balchik from neighbour Bulgaria

after checking Brasov and Sibiu in my homecountry ( http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...t=sibiu+brasov)

, we went to visit our bulgarian neighbours to the south

leaving romania trough Vama Veche which means "Old border",one of the different kind of summer resorts whre mainly rockers come

the bulgarian countryside

entering Varna city

Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral in downtown

around downtown

the city plazza where all the big brand shops are

i really liked the idea of shuting down auto traffic on some streets in the center

varna sport arena complex

the entrance to Varna sea gardens

one of varna's city beaches

a nice military museum in the old town

i have to admit that the homeless are much more creative than in Romania , they use bikes and boxes to carry plastics and canns , as oposed to dragging a giant bag to the recycle center

old roman ruins concealed along the houses

back in downtown heading to balchik

arrived in Balchik , one of Bulgaria's main sea resorts , the litle town has a really nice position ,beeing built on high hills next to the sea. The main attraction is the castle and bothanical garden , built as a summer residence for Queen Marie of Romania during the period wich the region belonged to Romania
so here it is:
from the entrance up on the hill heading down to the beach along the great lanscaping

the workers quarters wich i think is now used as a small motel

sea balcony

view from the gardens

wine cellar

and after a hard day a nice beer ,light of course before heading back home, the cats from the town were very friendly

view from Terrace

hope you enjoyed
