Not really big enough to create a thread for.
Marasy Abu Dhabi, UAE 939,000 SF Residential, hotel CBT, in collaboration with landscape architects Carol R. Johnson Associates, designed this mixed-use residential waterfront complex in Abu Dhabi. This unique development consists of 350 residential units within seven buildings and provides a strong retail presence at the street level. Marasy reflects its coastal environment through its siting and building configuration and through nautically-inspired design elements such as the structures’ sloping, metallic roof planes. The building façades are an intricate composition of light-colored wall planes, glass bays, and cantilevered terraces. The goal of the design was to evokes a crisp, tropical, seaside environment. The individual residences are all designed to capture extraordinary waterfront views while maximizing privacy. The complex features soaring glass atriums and natural light-filled hallways that enable users to travel directly from theirs cars to their homes without having to go outside. ![]() ![]() ![]() >>More here<< |

The Gateway Towers are in Khalidiya across from the Emirates Palace Hotel. This mixed use development of 2 connected 60 storey towers is predominantly residential with office and parking in the podium. The top of the towers culminate in a spiralling crescendo of duplex penthouses that relate to the curling triangular sails of the traditional gulf dhao sailing ships. The circular towers allow for spectacular views across the open sea and are clad in floor to floor glass framed with in a structural exoskeleton steel mesh. ![]() Link Need someone in Abu Dhabi to confirm please. |

Adam, is that render of Reem Island the reliable image of how reem island should look like?? ive been to city scape recently and they showed lots of renders, but this render you posted is much more better. Especially in relations with how Gate District is gonna be located. just perfect.

Ruwais. The image shown of Reem Island is not that accurate. The only towers that are actually real designs are the Gate Towers and Tameer Towers. Almost all rest are just place holders. (i.e. made up by a graphical designer or someone). But they still should give an idea of the density, location and size of the project.
Also on another note, the render only shows the the Shams District of the Island, which is only about 25% of Reem Island. And yes there are lots of renders out there, but I couldn't find a decent render of the whole project so I just posted that one. |

New ZU campus a 'design masterpiece'
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() By Amelia Naidoo, Notes Editor Published: September 12, 2009, 22:40 Located in Abu Dhabi, it will accommodate 6,000 students. At this moment 2,000 construction personnel are working furiously towards completing Zayed University's (ZU) most ambitious project yet. Spread over an area larger than 30 football fields, the new Zayed University campus in Abu Dhabi will be completed in 2011. It is twice the size of the ZU campus in Dubai International Academic City. It will accommodate 6,000 students comprising 70 per cent female and 30 per cent male. Commenting on the futuristic design of the new campus, Physical Development Director Riham Hwaidi said: "The university design will be a masterpiece with various distinguished elements such as the feature roof, the promenades, the central campus and courtyards." She said the state-of-the art campus incorporates a combination of traditional and contemporary architectural and engineering elements "highlighting the national identity and architectural heritage of the UAE". The wavy, shell-like roof is the dominant structure. The university's pièce de résistance is its convention centre and 18,000 square metre library with a capacity to house half a million books. The campus will have faculty and administration buildings, a childcare facility, residence halls, classrooms, science and computer labs, cafeterias and a sports complex, all equipped with the latest technologies. http://www.gulfnews.com/notes/campus/10348322.html Dunno if there is a thread for this project here? Didn't find one anyway.

Adam ... the latest projects suppose to be out shortly are The Louvre project (list of prequalified contractors to be out shortly), Sh. Zayed Musuem (nobody seem to have a picture of this project) & the Gugenheim museum ...
It would be nice if we can get some input on these projects which are worth following up ... |

With the Louvre, piling should of easily begun by now, and yes a list of contractors is due shortly. Don't know exactly when... As for the Sh. Zayed Musuem, the design is to be released 'later this year' and to be completed by 2013. I know that the architects are Foster & Partners. The Gugenheim museum, apparently ground works under-way. Contract expected to be awarded before the and of the year, with construction to begin early next year.
I have a feeling that all these projects will be closley followed by the press, so any news your bound to hear somthing about it. If not we will be still posting here. Adam : The associated works on Louvre have already started about a month back by Bauer. Also Miro has started to make a small observatory iron mongery simulator .. should be on for observation by end of October. PQQ for Sh. Zayed already out & received by TDIC, while that of Guggenheim out and I suppose people should be submitting the same by 7.10.2009. However, was not aware that enabling works on Guggenheim have already started cause the last time I visited Sadiyat i.e; a week before Eid, there was not a soul in sight in fact we were just wondering about the exact location of Guggenheim. |
