Thanks ... Yes i found that out in a similar thread at Skyscrapercity .. I suppose it will mean that they will remove Corniche hospital (at a later stage) and even Sheraton !

At the present time I have seen enabling works going on 1 building project, while 2 to 3 more are suppose to start shortly.

Having seen all the property demands going down, I was hoping that they would stop the project !

Does anyone have any details in regards to a law that i believe was passed in 2010 referred to as law 52. it covers a topic of parking spaces within basements of buildings and the restrictions re leasing these spaces.

I am curious to know what it actually states. there are some rumours that it means that if a landlord leases spaces to its tenants, it cannot lease further vacant spaces to tenants for additional revenue. Please let me know if you know if this is correct / way off the mark. again it has come about from a rumour i heard nothing more.

Abu Dhabi's Trust Tower hits new heights

The 59-storey Trust Tower is part of Abu Dhabi's Central Market complex.

The Aldar project was designed by Foster and Partners.

All 59 floors of concrete structure are in place. The building's ventilated facade, designed in a way that will save around
AED6m in energy bills per year, is almost fully installed, having reached the 57th floor.

Aldar expects contractors to hand over office space towards the end of the year, and for offices to be occupied by May 2012.

The building will have 1,500 dedicated parking spaces, and links to current and future transport routes.

Amenities include a 3,500sqm gym, retail, hotel, residential and food outlets.

Abu Dhabi gets 1392 new rooms in November

Five major hotel brands opened their Abu Dhabi properties within days of one another in November in a bid to win guests visiting the emirate for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The flurry of hotel openings, many of which had been delayed from their scheduled launch dates, added 1392 hotel rooms to the emirate’s inventory in November alone.

On November 1, the 400-key Jumeirah Etihad Towers opened, as did the 306-room Park Hyatt Saadiyat Island. Jumeirah Etihad Towers had been slated to open in July, while Hotelier reported in October that the Park Hyatt’s opening date had been pushed back from October 15.

November 4 marked the soft opening of Rotana’s fourth Centro-branded hotel in the capital, the 229-key Centro Al Manhal Abu Dhabi. The 176-room Westin Abu Dhabi was due to open on November 1, but the hotel launched a couple of days later than expected on November 7 – the same day as the opening of the 281-key Rocco Forte Abu Dhabi.

A further 808 rooms are expected to open in Abu Dhabi this month, including the 189-key Hyatt Capital Gate which will “definitely” soft open before the end of the year.

Premier Inn’s first Abu Dhabi hotel, also located at the Capital Centre was scheduled to open last September but is now on track for a December opening, adding another 242 rooms to the inventory.

“We had hoped and expected it to be open by now, but sadly not. However, we are working towards opening Premier Inn Abu Dhabi capital Centre on December 10,” said Premier Inn Hotels’ managing director Darroch Crawford.

The largest hotel scheduled to open in Abu Dhabi in 2011, the 377-room St. Regis Saadiyat Island, had also intended to open in time for the Grand Prix. However, having experienced delays, this hotel is now expected to join the December openings. Other Abu Dhabi openings have included the Grand Millennium Al Wahda and the Cristal Salam.

According to Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s (ADTA) Future Hotel Register dated May 7, The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal, with 447 rooms, was initially planned to open this year but is now slated to open May 2012. The report included the 326-room Rosewood Abu Dhabi in its 2011 openings, but this will launch in 2012 too, in Q4.

By the end of 2011, 2458 rooms will have been added to the Abu Dhabi inventory over the past 12 months (2570 including the Cristal Salam which opened in October but was not featured on the report).

This is out of “5848” rooms ADTA forecast to open in 2011.

ADTA launches 'Destination Village' on Corniche

Quote:

Jan 2, 2012

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority has launched its purpose-built Destination Village on the Corniche in time for its two-week hosting of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet.

The village opened on Saturday December 31; and features entertainment; dhow building displays; and Souk Al Mamsha where visitors can buy traditional crafts. It is open every day from 11am until 11pm.

“The entertainment programme is dotted with activities which are educational as well as entertaining and people will leave knowing far more about Abu Dhabi’s maritime and watersports credentials than they did before,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Events Manager, ADTA.

“When we began our Volvo Ocean Race hosting campaign we promised a stand-out stopover and we believe we have fulfilled that commitment, he added. "This is not just for sailors or would-be sailors but for families who want to get out into the fresh air and have fun alongside thousands of others. There will, however, be opportunities for all to try their hand at sailing and to find out more about this great sport. The atmosphere will be electric and the best news yet is that all the entertainment is free!”

Visitors will be able to win prizes at a ‘Hole in One Challenge’ run by the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Those who make the ‘ace’ shot go into a weekly draw to win a holiday of a life-time to join the race fleet in either Sanya, China or Galway, Ireland.

Two grand prizes are also up for grabs including two economy return tickets to either stopover on Etihad Airways, four nights luxury bed and breakfast accommodation; limousine airport transfers as well as on and off water hospitality to enjoy all the Volvo Ocean Race action.

Mangrove Elite Residences, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Monday 09 Jan 2012

Three essential threads run through this design: an extraordinary plot in an environmentally sensitive area, high-end facilities for the users, as well as an innovative design. The goal of the design was to surpass even the high expectations of the developer and the end users, with each apartment to be considered as a scarcity amongst treasures. As a 'boutique building' the design reflects a prestigious lifestyle from its broad concept to the meticulously considered details.

The design of the facade features slightly inclined and curved columns, cylindrical in section, which not only provide structural support but also resemble reeds – a kind of reminder of the proximity of the mangroves and marine habitat nearby. The building is highly glazed to enable users to enjoy the superb open views, even when using the spar pools abutting the glazing system. A double skin of glazing is used to resist excessive heat gain, playing its part in raising the sustainability of the building. The same effect is provided by the green roof, provided as a leisure garden for the users.

Comfort and delight for the users extends to the use of smart built-in interactive systems and numerous superb facilities. In this way the building is intended to arouse visual interest from afar but also presents delightful details as one gets closer and then indeed goes inside.

That model has been there for ages, so I'd be surprised if construction was going to start this year, if ever. But they do have the room to expand, and I'd like to see it happen...
