Largest Stadium

which stadium is the largest in the world ? . no not by capacity , i have already started a may day thread , but i mean by sheer size of the building .
im guessing its either jerry world cause ive heard it has the biggest room in the world in terms of volume , or wembley because of its huge concourses. ?

also in this thread we can disscus which stadium is the largest in every aspect EXCEPT capacity .. like which stadium has the largest footprint ? which stadium has the tallest stands ? .. and so on

The largest room in the world as far as I know is the Hangar from the attempted Cargolifter project:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargolifter_AG

Since it went bankrupt the gigantic hangar has been turned into an indoor tropical Island resort:
http://www.strangeharvest.com/mt/arc...g_to_fee_1.php

And in german but with several nice pictures: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargolifter_Werfthalle

I seriously doubt Jerry world is anywhere near the size of that hangar, which is 360 m long, 210 m wide and 107 m high by the way, the space inside is 5.5mio m³.

In other words, we're looking for the stadium with the largest total volume.

According to http://www.wembleystadium.com/buildi...statsandfacts/, Wembley's bowl has a volume of 1,139,100 m³, though I don't know if that includes all the concourses, restaurants etc.

But http://en.structurae.de/structures/d...fm?id=s0006505 says 4,000,000 m³...

If you count race courses, Indianapolis Motor Speedway is huge. Fits the Rose Bowl, Wimbledon, old Yankee Stadium, Churchill Downs, and the Vatican City inside it.

Hmm, he does have a point there:
(Although many other racecourses do not exactly look very stadiumlike.)

I've always wondered whether race courses count as stadiums.

I think this would be the forum to talk about them in, which other forum would they fit into?

Race courses aside, that massive dilapidated one in Prague has by far the largest footprint.

racetracks dont count as stadiums, maybe its not official but we usually separate the term stadium and racetrack... ( except for bristol motor speedway, which IMO is a stadium since it is enclosed with stands all the way around.. but any way lets rule it out just to be consistent.. ) that huge thing with nine pitches has never been used for anything serious as far as i know and its just so wierd so lets rule that one out as well.

no im talking about the largest conventional stadiums wich IMO gives us 4 serious contenders :

Jerry World - Wembley - Melbourne Cricket Ground - May Day Stadium

some of those south american stadiums have to have large footprints with thier shallow pitched stands and being spaced far behind the athletic tracks.

I would guess May day has it. Even with the Cantilevered upper deck, that is atleast 120,000 seats around a big athletics pitch. The Morumbi is half that. In terms of Footprint Cowboys stadium is big, so is Wembly, but I doubt is big.
