To promote public transport, preparations for Delhi Road-Jagatpura-Pratapnagar brts route have begun. However the first phase is still to be finished. The responsible company and govt's lack of activeness is causing trouble for the common man. Despite several notices by JDA as well as fines, the company responsible is not doing things in a proper way.

JDA had marked 3 phases of the first part of the BRTS corridor. Out of the three, only one on Sikar road has been built. One was scraped after objections from the Central government. Whereas the pace of work on the third one is so slow that it is late by a whole year now.

The JDA has given nearly half a dozen notices to the company constructing the corridor. It has also been fined 2 times. However, the company keeps getting away by given excuses related to finances. The government has also not acted swiftly despite the fact that the Urban development department had set up a committee.

How is it impacting the people:

Due to construction, there is constant jam in Durgapura. Heavy vehicles are being diverted from JLN road. Electric wires remain open near St Wilfred college. The road between Durgapura bus stand and BSNL exchange is not wide enough hence traffic jams. On new Sanganer road accidents are occurring due to dug up road.

Report on 3 phases of the 1st part:

Phase 1: Sikar Road: 7km long. Work started in 2007, Finished in August 2010 and has been in operation since then.

Phase 2: Panipech to Sanganer Airport: On this 19 km route, there were first plans for Dedicated and then mixed used lane. The width of the road was not enough for a dedicated corridor and the central govt said no to a mixed corridor.Therefor, in 2009 this phase was scrapped. Instead of this, a new route from B2 bypass to airport has been suggested. Currently pending for approval with Central govt.

Phase 3: B2 bypass to C zone bypass- Ajmer road-Sodala-Government hostel and Durgapura elevated road. Work going at a snails pace from B2 bypass to C-Zone and Durgapura Elevated road. The company started work in 2010 and now the deadline is december 2013.

Jaipur has nice buses but they are not same as delhi. We have busses similar to indore or ahmedabad.

By tier 1 city if you mean metropolitan then jaipur is definitely a tier 2 city.

Now these AC buses are everywhere. They are really well maintained as well.

In general the standards of jaipur buses is good, but these are the best jaipur has to offer

Two temples stand in way of Bus Rapid Transit System project

The Times of India
Quote:
Construction of the much-delayed Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project has once again came to a halt standstill as Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) struggles to shift two temples that fall on the route.

According to officials, between Queen's Road and New Sanganer Road JDA has to remove temples, which are hampering the construction work of BRTS corridor that goes to Amrit Nagar.

A JDA official said, "As the temples are falling in Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) periphery, the board is responsible for relocating temples by allotting land. We have written to the board several times to shift the temples. However, no work has been done yet."

"The project is being delayed due to the temples. The major portion of the temples is falling on the main road, if temples are not relocated in time, the JDA will install railing and close that section of the road," he added.

The construction of this corridor started late due to revision in the proposal. Considering airport as an important point, JDA decided to connect the BRTS route to Sanganer Airport via B2 bypass. The decision was taken after the JDA shelved the Panipech to Sanganer BRTS route.

The JDA, while providing an alternative route to the airport, decided to extend the BRTS (phase -II) corridors. "The project was extended from Government Hostel to Amrit Nagar (New Sanganer Road) route to connect to the airport. The route is 13 km long and extension of 7km more will connect it with the Sanganer Airport," said the official.

The official also said that as the Metro phase- II is proposed on Tonk Road, this proposed route is the most viable one to connect the airport. "Due to space constraints and the Metro project on Tonk Road, the BRTS dedicated corridor is not feasible on Tonk Road," he said.

According to officials, the two elevated roads proposed on B2 bypass will swiftly connect with Tonk Road.

An official said, "Two elevated roads have been proposed. One is proposed from the end of Tonk Road that will be constructed till the end of New Sanganer Road. It will be around 2,100 metres long. Similarly, from New Sanganer Road, the elevated road will be constructed till Amanishah Nullah that will be 1,200 metres long.

"The estimated cost of the proposed elevated roads will be Rs 100 crore. We conducted a survey one and a half year ago when the estimated cost was around Rs 65 crore," he added.

Jaipur's western BRTS corridor likely to be operational July 15

(1) Jaipur's northern BRTS corridor from C-Zone Bypass near Harmada to Pani Pech commenced operation in July 2010.

Quote:
The 7-km corridor constructed on Sikar Road has increased the travel speed.
Passengers can travel 7 km in 18 minutes at Sikar Road BRTS corridor. It has also reduced accidents by 12.65% and reduced green house emissions as the engines of the low floor buses comply with BS-III emission norms.

Besides, these buses have reduced noise pollution and energy consumption.
The low-floor buses running in BRTS corridor has increased the overall capacity of public transport services. As per the reports, these buses have increased the ridership from 55,000 to 2,00,000 since July 2010.

Moreover, private minibuses ran on 36 routes carrying 4.5 lakh people a day. The overlapping of functions of government departments and bodies were creating problems. The BRTS has discouraged this practice.
(2) The western BRTS corridor, integrated with the Metro, is likely to commence operation this month.

Quote:
After the successful launch of Metro, the 8.5-km Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), corridor connecting Queen's road and B2 bypass via New Sanganer road is also likely to become operational by mid-July.

According to officials, corridor package (III) constructed after spending nearly Rs 80 crore, which started in 2010, is on verge of completion and will be operational soon.

A senior JDA official said, "All the work, including construction of bus-shelters, road is complete. The finishing work is ongoing and the corridor will be operational from July 15."

According to a JDA official, BRTS along with Jaipur Metro will bring a massive change on city roads.
"Once operational, the passengers can avail buses in every 10 minutes. Many of these buses are linked with Jaipur Metro in order to make the network strong."

Like Metro, BRTS too is expected to reduce the journey time on this 8.5-km stretch.
Explaining the requirement of BRTS corridor on this route, an official said, "Large number of city's population travel to Ajmer Road and Mansrovar as these areas have become a hub for education and business. If roads are congested, people travelling in slow speed of traffic (15 to 20 kmph) leads to many accidents as many in a hurry try to overtake in the wrong manner and also disregard proper traffic rules in the process."
