10. Wooden manor house and boulder in Dzirciems suburb. Quite a surreal view - looks like a rural scenery, but actually there are commieblocks in 50 m distance, on the opposite side of the street.

11. Construction company RBS Skals office building in Ķīpsala island. It's located on a very distant corner of Riga - northern part of island of Ķīpsala, in the area which mostly consists of industrial/warehouses built-up and wild nature. Despite the location, it's one of the nicest modern architecture examples in Riga, imo, looks quite hi-tech.

Love the new concept.

Riga ROCKS!!! I like it very much. It's a pity though white trash sees it as a source of cheap fun:

Yeah, what can I say... We are not without our own responsibility about that - we have let striptease clubs and places like that to establish their shady businesses in our city. There was a time when in Riga airport one of the first brochures tourists saw was about some strip club or similar place. Why, for example, Vilnius hasn't these type of tourists? Of course, partly because it haven't had low cost airlines connection, but I doubt it's only because of that.

Well, today's pictures are related a bit with this theme Those British drunksters here in Riga maybe have drunk also the beer from...

17. "Aldaris" beer factory.
It is located on Sarkandaugava historical suburb and is one of the few great old Riga factories from Industrial revolution times which is still working. "Aldaris" is leading beer factory in Latvia (out of tens of them) - it's production occupies about 50% of all Latvian beer market. Here you see the historical complex - I think the real work today is going on in Soviet time buildings next by.

"Aldaris" has also license to produce Carlsberg beer - Carlsberg beer which people buy in Baltic states is produced in "Aldaris".

18. Bank Of Latvia money depository building - here Latvian Lat money reserves is being kept in a safe place. Of course, area is strongly guarded, there was even ridiculously much video cameras, it seems even ant couldn't walk here unnoticed. Security men came out of the building after I took a few shots - that's one of the endless cases when someone wants to forbid me to take photos somewhere. Ok, this could be the justified case, but anyway, he couldn't explain, if there are rules issued out by Cabinet of Ministers which forbids to photograph there. Because only such rules can forbid to shoot in public places. Guard asked my passport, and I happened to have it, I gave it to him, he consulted with another man inside in the building and they decided don't let me take more photos - I should go to ask for their PR people for permission. But, as I had took these shots already, I decided to not to waste my time.

From Bank of Latvia web page: "The new building of the Bank of Latvia's Riga Branch was completed in November 2001. Its vault is spacious and meets the needs and security standards of a modern central bank. The concept of the building's project was worked out jointly with experts of the Deutsche Bundesbank. The architectural bureau Kronbergs, Karklins un partneri designed the architectural solution of the project. The architects firm Held & Partner and the engineering firm Alhaeuser+Hoenig prepared the detailed working drafts and supervised the building process."

Great way to set out the thread with a different theme per day - adds a lot of diversity to your thread! The beer factory is an interesting looking building .

Yeah, that's exactly what I wanted to show - diversity. There are hundreds of beautiful historical buildings in Riga centre and Old Town and I could show only them for years. But I think it's more interesting to see every day something new.

Yeah, Vecais, that's the smartest decission of all that could be done in Photography threads - to create an everyday concept! Thanks a million for such clever move and those magnificent pictures each day! Indeed, one of the most beautiful threads on SSC!
Btw, The Bank of Latvia building is probably the best contemporary architectural masterpiece realized in Riga, IMO!!

Billion thanks to you, Triceratop, for so kind words!
However it seems, that except some foreign forumers, like Bristol Mike, Borisnifk and a couple of others, this thread interests mostly only ourselves - Latvians
