19. Riga centre skyline from the roof of Olympia hypermarket building in Ķīpsala island. There is broad wooden stairs leading to the roof, and although there was warning it's forbidden to climb all the way up there, I did it and took some more unusual shots of Old Town's skyline (with some churches seen even from "Maskachka" district, which are some 3 km farther away).

And as a bonus today - my new musical video about Riga. This is my best one until now. I have used naive but uplifting ditty from Latvian retro pop archives (something like socialistic realism in popmusic) and have added translations in English of song lyrics (they could be imperfect in grammar though). Music composer: Raimonds Pauls, singer: Ojars Grinbergs, lyrics: Ziedonis Purvs, photos and production by me. Watch in Youtube, don't forget to click on HD and then on full screen to get the real hi-fi experience:

Thanks for your opinion! Riga is cosmopolitan really, it was already century ago and still it is. But peaceful - no, actually it is quite stressful: cars and people have filled up the centre in almost any time of day (except early mornings and late nights) which makes it hard for a photographer to take good shots of buildings, streetviews etc. I use to take some 5-6 shots of the exactly same view because again some car or people has disturbed it - or wait minutes for that little second when I can take clear shot (and in some places it's even impossible).

Riga is VERY lively, actually I still can't understand how city which is not that big, can be so lively (some blame our undeveloped infrastructure for that, because in most cases one needs to drive through centre to reach different parts of the city).

Sometimes it gives energy and I like this metropolis-like bustling, but sometimes I get tired of it. When in 4th May we celebrated National Holidays, I walked out on Riga streets - people were still there (although mostly tourists), but cars were so few... It was such a relief! I even didn't recognize Riga, all the noise was disappeared and I enjoyed buildings, parks and views in absolutely different, gorgeous atmosphere (especially Boulevard Ring area is more appropriate for calm, quiet environment; some other, more urban centre parts may have all this traffic - it fits in there).

20. Fountain in Bastejkalna park in Boulevard Ring area. Spring is the time of year when these parks looks most beautiful.

Very nice skyline shots there, those church towers make the place look very picturesque - as does the park in your last update .

21. Small and cosy church in Mežaparks district.
This is the smallest classic style (with tower) church I have seen here in Latvia.

22. Valnu street. 2 pictures of the same place. The first pic is from summer 2008, the second - from this summer. In the beginning of year new regulations about car parking in Old Town were established. You see the result.

It does, but unfortunately there remains a problem with traffic because now old town has no barriers to enter and anyone can easily drive through there..

24. Teika is historical suburb of Riga about 6 km to north-east from Old Town. It consists mainly private houses and most of them - in Functionalism style, as this district developed in 20ies-30ies. This one more seems like a new building though. Note the werid contrast between this posh building and it's fence:

25. Time for some Soviet time architecture. Don't know anything about this building on Ganību dambis street, but I very like it:
