50. Alksnāja street in Old Town's southern-western part, which I feel as the most authentic part of Old Town. Narrow streets with medieval buildings there.

Great photography. Riga is one of the most beautiful European cities, as I noticed during our trip last summer. And it's very cosmopolitan also.
A must visit for everyone who likes the good things of life!

This church isn't British, but there is one Anglican Church in Riga that was opened in the 19th century.

52. "Moscow" historical suburb district is famous with it's criminality and being called "Riga's ghetto", "slum", etc. In terms of street and building maintenance it doesn't differ from many other historical suburbs of Riga, but here could be more "interesting people" though. This square with stylish tram stop (nicest tram stop in Riga!) was redeveloped some years ago and now it doesn't look dangerous at all, but, of course, there are also much gloomier places in Moscow district or "Maskachka".

Tbh, in the recent time 'Maskacha' has lost its status of being sort of criminal district, it's absolutely safe now! Must add that this place is just one of the least known areas from architectural point of view, it deserves to be widely popular and visited, believe me, it has amazingly lot to share!!

Yes, that is beginning of that huge district. It stretches farther down to south about 4 kilometres. For example, this place is some 2 km from Stalinist skyscraper.

Yep, it's a pity that not big part of our residents understand the value of such pretty district and it's not good that any city visitors are not told about this area's worthiness..!

Many of our residents don't have a clue even about centre beautiful buildings... They walk on the streets looking down to pavements or straight forward, but never looks up - to the buildings around.

If we mentioned Soviet scraper, let's take a look at it:

53. Academy of Sciences highrise, built in Stalin times. One of the highest buildings in Europe at that time.

I must admit I do like that kind of commie-skyscrapers. It reminds me of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw.
Nice pics anyway.

Very nice rounds! That last one in particular is lovely with the late-afternoon light and backdrop of blue skies.

All of them were built with the same ideas. I used to hate this building since i was constantly comparing it to old churches and towers of Riga which are gorgeous. It always looked ugly to me.

Thanks! But the last one is actually with late-morning light (shot at 10-11 AM, while the sun still shines to western side). Probably it looks like in afternoon because of the polarizer effect.
