CC is about 300 000. I think it is couted as its own separate entity but it can be considered apart of Sydney as it is so reliant for employment.

I thought Gosford was considered its own urban area and considered its own city with the rest of the Central Coast just being small towns? Could be completely wrong though.

^ ABS counts the Central Coast as part of the Sydney Statistical Division. Almost everyone else considers it as a separate area.
It's comprised of two LGAs - Gosford and Wyong. It's most certainly not part of Newy either

I think you'll find it will get there quicker than that. Last 2 years Melbourne's population has grown by about 75,000 people per year.

I've talied up the list of 43 cities over 30,000 into States/Territories. Where the city area is over 2 states/territories (ie. Canberra-Queanbeyan) I've given 1 tally for each state/territory:
NSW 17 QLD 11 VIC 9 WA 5 TAS 3 SA 1 ACT 1 NT 1 Interesting what effect a more de-centralised population makes. |

Those population counts are not for cities they are for what ABS call Statistical Divisions or SD for short which combine areas around cities like in the term Metropolitan Population. Like for Newcastle SD 531 000 includes Maitland, Cessnock, Lake Macquarie etc. Newcastle city LGA is 147 000. While for some places its the other way round e.g. Cairns the SD population 142 000 is lower than the City LGA population 152 000. Same as Townsville SD is 162 000 and the LGA is 175 000.

Orange's LGA is basically limited to it's urban area. Drive a few kays in each direction from Orange's town centre and you will find most of that area is covered by the surrounding Cabonne LGA (which is predominently rural in nature - Canowindra and Molong are the two main towns of Cabonne LGA).

Yea exactly, Orange, Dubbo and Bathurst are not deserved placed higher than 35th.
Lismore SD is very accurate compared to LGA of 45,000+. Wonder why Ballina isnt included for the SD? The shire is well over 43,000 and pretty sure the SD around 28,000. |

I though the Sunshine Coast was a lot bigger than that, don't know where I got 350,000 from.

Just like the Perth/Mandurah and Brisbane/Gold Coast debates, there may be a time down the track when the ABS considers Ballina and Lennox Head to be one continuous urban belt... don't hold your breath though. |

You mean regional council?
In some cases we usually call Ballina-Byron Gateway. Ballina and Lennox are completely different to other cities. But same case of urban joining up. Theres less than 1km gap between Angels Beach North and southern part of Skennars Head! |

Seriously your talking rubbish again. Northern Rivers of course is rural but look closely, Ballina and Byron are both only places in Northern Rivers (except Tweed which is part of Gold Coast) are urban dense areas! Hence its fastest growing region outside Sydney in NSW!
