Just a reflection of the lack of construction in NSW. The housing supply situation and high property prices. NSW's broken urban planning system is a choke on the state's economy and population growth, and many people are going to other states as economic refugees.

^What's that, a 600km plus round trip for a bit of sport, no worries . Probably even longer, there isn't really a direct route.

Don't know about those office numbers, but the headquarters for BHPB is Melbourne, the headquarters for BHPBIO is Perth.

Anyway all you Melbneys better watch out, the vultures have their eyes on us as the new financial hub of the country.

Didn't mean to sound like I questioned it, I really just had no idea. Seems low considering its the global headquarters of one of the largest companies now that I think about it though.

BHP Melbourne HQ is basically just the highest level staff and their support operations. Everything else is disaggregated to more suitable locations.

For example, most of the trading and financial side of the business is done out of Singapore and London.

Anyway...On 19 October 2012 at 03:56:51 PM (Canberra time), the resident population of Australia is projected to be:

22,786,996

So when are looking at the magic 23 million? This time next year?

We should be 23 million on the 31st of May next year if the trend remains the same according to my calculations.

When is Perth expected to hit the two million residents mark?

I was just looking at the Auckland thread and saw they're expected to get there in 20 years. Perth will most likely get there first, won't it?

WA already has a population of over 2 million with the majority in the Perth/Peel area.

June 2011 Perth was 1,832,111

...and growing at circa 3%

So, in about 2 years time. Sometime during 2014.

In 20 years, at 3% growth, Perth would be almost 4 million.

From the ABS:

June 2010 1.74
June 2011 1.83

Which prob means approaching 1.9 soon.

It is recorded as 26% increase over the decade to June 2011.

Someone can fill in the details, the figures above show more than 3%, I guess due to boundaries changing.

In the not so distant past, Perth has had long stretches (maybe a decade) of 3% growth. But, Perth is without doubt the fastest growing SD of all Australian capitals, by percentage.

But, I'm outta my depth with regards to SD's, so I'll let someone else take over.

Youd hope so seeing as though Perth has over 300,000 on Auckland!

26% growth over 10 years equates to 2.3% per year.
