Across the road from that building represents pretty much what's wrong with Freo.

agreed things need to change. although i'm a little apprehensive about messing around too much with the harbour. one of the few interesting things left about fremantle - it being a working port.

I hope that terminal is heritage listed.

Ocean pools vision to lift Freo's west end

A concept drawing for the ocean pool at Bather's Beach

A Fremantle building designer has released images of how the south side of the south mole could be transformed by ocean pools to help revitalise the port city's struggling west end.

Sam Martin, whose business Sam Martin Design is based in the west end, last year took his concept and design for Fremantle ocean pools to city mayor Brad Pettitt, who embraced the idea.

On Wednesday, the City of Fremantle's strategic and general services committee unanimously backed the move to give in-principle support to an ocean pool at Bathers beach.

The motions will go to a full council meeting on March 28.

Mr Martin said he was motivated by a lack of swimming facilities in the city and a desire to revitalise the west end.

"For about the last 14 or 15 years successive Fremantle councils have wondered how they could enliven and commercially activate the west end of Fremantle," he said.

"It is not economically viable for a lot of businesses and not enough foot traffic goes through there."

Mr Martin said he hoped to be involved if the concept moved forward.

Dr Pettitt said councillors had so far been positive about the idea of an ocean pool at Bathers beach.

Details of how the project might look could be properly investigated if it was approved by the council.

I don't mind them, gives choice.

I stumbled across this, not sure if already posted.

The City of South Perth plan to redevelop the proposed South Perth railway station precinct could transform the area into a commercial hub rivalling Subiaco and West Perth. Motus Architecture has worked closely with the City of South Perth and a number of other local authorities in the past. We were asked to develop an artist’s impression of the proposed amendments to the planning scheme. After close liaison with planning officers the adjacent images were developed. A priority was placed on maintaining public open space, pedestrian thoroughfares, street activation and development density. We also took this opportunity of a blank canvas to develop our modern architectural styles and challenge the standard stereotype of a high rise building.

Looks like a good idea. Would be nice for the station to be built so that they can begin to transform the area. I don't see why they couldn't build the station to begin with when the line was built.
