Those maps at the bottom are of the area south of Manning Road. Different project to the South Perth train station precinct, I imagine.

I love it, south Perth needs a kick in the butt.
I can't imagine anything over 8 stories getting up Sth Perth though.

I thought all the ones over 8 were old.
All the latest ones seem to be 8 and under.

Could see myself living in one of those apartments in Cockburn. Definitely coming along nicely down that way.

It has as much, or more, potential than any other suburban area in Perth.
Will be interesting to see how it develops over the next 5 - 10 years. |

Shame there is going to be 6 lanes of traffic separating Cockburn Central and Success/Gateways shopping centre.
The good news is that the Cockburn Central precinct is set to to continue from the current area all the way to Berrigan drive. Will be one very large medium density area. You can see in this map just how large the medium density area will be for Cockburn Central (beeliar drive to berrigan drive). This isnt even including the 'Success Central' area that is to the immediate south of Cockburn Central.

Are they upgrading Armadale Road? Wouldn't be such a problem if they got around to building the busway under Armadale Road (The tunnel already exists) - and build a footpath directly to the shopping centre. Such simple additions that would make such a BIG difference.

The amount of painted concrete in those developments is beyond ridiculous, it's reaching a point that it needs to be legislated against. I can't think of any other city in the world that has such a bland and repetitive architectural style. Pyongyang comes close.
Great potential for the area though, it'll probably end up being more active than Subiaco. Last edited by Urbicus; March 20th, 2012 at 09:23 AM. |

Whoever did the traffic design for gateways shops area needs to retire however. Such a traffic flow nightmare for a newly planned precinct unfortunately. |

I moved into Cockburn Centra about 3 months ago and glad I did. the place has great potential.
It is really kicking up a notch in the next few months. The grey apartments next to the station will be occupied soon (83 apartments and 13 retail tenancy's). The green and grey building is the DOH joint venture and about 120 apartments. almost finished and a spectacular building. universal access and 5 retail/cafe tenancies. Plaza 817 is the commercial on beeliar road and is a few months finishing. Couple this with the FESA building and you will have a good number of workers around all day. Kingston the one under construction now will eventually be some 200 apartments. It is a work in progress but definitely has great potential. Oh and a sea container cafe will be dropped in the main park shortly. |

Lastly, the buses will be going under the beeliar underpass once the gateways net stage starts. about 5 buses will run down the main street and the rest around the back. So the times should be increased dramatically. it can take 10 mins to clear gateways in a bus in peak!

In Canberra, the Gungahlin centre is exactly like Cockburn but a few more years down the development path. The architecture is identical to the point where you could look at pictures of the two together and think they were the same place. |
