With 'so much' resistance to foreshore development, how on earth did concert hall carpark end up where it did? Im amazed that during this whole process of developing the foreshore stuff all mention has been made about it, the opportunities of development there or whether we should get rid of it. It needs more waterfront development, would be nice to have concert hall right up next to the river.

It is sitting above some deep unstable estuarine soil, I believe. As was the carpark that used to be on the PCEC site. Not sure if that was solely the reason why it has been used as a carpark though.

I guess the western suburbners like to drive straight from their front doors in the west down riverside drive and park their cars on the waterfront- oh what a view! |

There is a City of Perth plan for the carpark behind the Concert Hall. I don't think the deep estuarine deposits isn't a game breaker, but it will probably greatly increase building cost - esp for higher rise.

CoP has all but ditched that plan. I think it was more of a Natrass idea. The concept of a performing arts 'precinct' doesn't sit well with me.
That carpark will be there for many years to come I think. If I had my way I would extend Supreme Court Gardens east so it is in line with the boundary of Government House. Then.. well.. I don't know what I would do directly infront of Perth Concert Hall. Wouldn't want to obstruct the sightlines to the river. |

Even having the concert hall out in that location by itself makes it pretty desolate. I can't imagine how bad it would be if we took away the parking area (the only 'active' use in the area) and replaced it with more buildings used only a fraction of the time. The idea that they could build cafes and shops down there and that people would use them is pretty absurd. |

Just ridiculous reporting in the Cambridge POST this week.
And that's just on the Waterfront - there was even more negativity then that on Cottesloe . |

Urgh, god I hate local newspapers. They're just a massive breeding ground for conservatism and whinge fests. - I have great pleasure in throwing them straight into the recycling bin.

Because the rest of the CBD doesn't cast shadows?
Even if the entire area was to be plunged into inky blackness, suggesting development be restricted to protect the amount of sunlight on a certain area at a certain time on a certain day is some Ancient Egyptian level shit. |
