20FC the POLL: the most controversial project in London - which side are you on?
After endless discussions and many people expressing their negative feelings about 20 Fenchurch Street maybe it's time for a poll to see if it's really a majority view or if the people who hate it are just more vocal about it. Here comes my try for some poll options that incorporate the general sentiments expressed in the past about this project. So which option (if multiple options seem to apply to you see my post #8 below where I try to make clear how to choose) most clearly expresses your views on 20FC?

My thoughts about it are a bit different to your poll options ibiza. I like the design, I like the sky gardens and even though I disagree about the location I would still like to see it built.
However, as i've mentioned on a previous thread somewhere, if it was possible to relocate 20FC I would place it on the South Bank somewhere facing the cluster, obviously not too close to the Shard. Imagine being at the top of the sky garden facing out towards the City cluster, with the Shard not too far away and a lot of London landmarks easy to see. |

I don't love it like it's a favourite project, but nor do I hate it. I think a lot of the criticism about the project is unjustified. I was vehemently against the project when it was first announced, but studying the planning documents and seeing it in relation to the proposed cluster through the Corporation of London model changed a lot of my negative views.
I think it will be a fine quirk to the cluster and as act as an interesting counterpoint to the other towers, as well as starting the movement of the City cluster down to the river.

yeah, I know, it's difficult to really collect all views on this with only a few options - one would probably need more than 10 to really allow all combinations that make sense. However I meant to head the poll with "Which option most clearly expresses your view on 20FC" and there I would have put you under Nr.1 as you seem to like the design enough to want to have it built unlike myself who only finds it just ok and mostly wants to see it built for the skygardens sake. And whereas we both don't like the location that much for this design we don't have enough of a problem about it to rather not have it built unlike for some other people where this is probably the single most important issue about it to not want it built

wow, we stand exactly at 50-50 right now if one adds up option 1+2 (build it) and 3+4 (don't) - cannot be more controversial indeed..

Im not for this one at all. I just think it looks over bearing and far too odd for the chosen location.

Clearly very divisive. I'm firmly in the 'please don't build this monstrosity' camp.

The poll was different when I voted. I see my own vote has been lumped in with those for whom the observation deck justifies it (ie option two). This is not my opinion. My opinion is that this is a hideous lump and I don't want it built under any circumstances. Please move my vote to option four. Thanks.

I have gone for 3, I believe it would look awesome in Canary Wharf or as a counterpart to Manchesters Beetham Tower, but in it's proposed location it just throws the cluster off balance.

Without the sky garden, it would look like complete shit. The garden adds something there, but it is still ugly.

I've gotta say im in the camp that hates it. Period.
However, if it was capped at 100 metres and no higher, it could be tolerable, but i'd rather have a building that I admire than put up with. As i said in the Construction thread for it, How can it gain planning permission if even people who love skyscrapers hate it? not to mention the general-tall-building-hating-public! It's beyond me. |

None of the options relate to my feelings. I like it, but it isn't one of my favourite objects. But I don't want it just because of the skygarden.
