IEAT announces five new estates for 2011 Some B23.9bn will be spent for the boom

Bangkokpost Published: 25/11/2010 at 12:00 AM

New industrial estates worth 23.9 billion baht and covering 16,000 rai will be built next year, says the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT).

CNXWood Movie World, a joint venture in Chiang Mai province between US-based CNXWood and Chiangmai New City Co, is set for early in the year.

Chiang Mai Governor Monta Pranootnarapal said the facility, covering 1,500 rai, will focus on multimedia production.

The IEAT recently set its sights on industrial estates for services, starting with the 37,000-rai Thai Diamond City and the 13,335-rai TCC Land. Both are in Phetchaburi province and due to begin operations early next year.

Others to be set up next year include:

- A second Amata Nakorn industrial estate on 8,226 rai across Chon Buri and Chachoengsao provinces worth 14.5 billion baht, for advanced technology and innovations, plastics, auto parts and consumer products.

- A 2,194-rai industrial estate by IRPC in Rayong's Ban Khai district worth 2.17 billion baht, for green industries, creative industries, high technology and biochemicals.

- A 3,327-rai industrial estate, also by IRPC, in Rayong's Wang Chan district worth 2.83 billion baht, for alternative energy.

- A 1,500-rai industrial estate by the ST Power Group in Chon Buri's Baan Bung Pattana area worth 1.2 billion baht, mainly for auto parts, infrastructure and logistics.

- A 2,042-rai industrial estate in Rayong's Lakchai and Muang Yang areas, for downstream rubber and auto industries.

For fiscal 2010 ending this past September 30, the IEAT recorded land sales of 2,985 rai, up by 128% from fiscal 2009.

Of that total, sales under the IEAT made up 271 rai, while sales under joint investments with the private sector accounted for the other 2,714 rai.

"Sales for the year beat our forecast of 1,485 rai thanks to the improved global economy and stabilised domestic political situation, which resulted in a return of confidence among foreign investors," said Governor Monta.

She said next year's sales target is 3,100 rai worth 4.6 billion baht, due mainly to greater clarity in the Map Ta Phut situation. Major investors include the automotive, auto parts, electronics and alternative energy sectors.

The IEAT now has 43 industrial estates in five provinces, covering 135,000 rai and worth a combined 2.2 trillion baht.

It has 14,660 rai of land left for sale.
