Hmmmm, not great is it.

There seems to be a lot of dross plans coming through at the moment.

I guess it is 'in keeping' with the car park to the right of the photo.

Should help with the planning process.

From the latest renders I think it blends in well with the surrounding new buildings ie, similar colours and materials. Most importantly, this building will help create the streetscape this area needs

Hah. If the best you can say about it is that it could be worse then it is quite obviously a shit building.

A four storey frontage facing one of the city centre's major throughfares is not the streetscape this area needs. God, it's embarassing that a developer would even try and get away with something that makes so little use of such a prime piece of city centre land. Somehow I'm not surprised though, along with masshouse this whole area can embrace its future as the shitty centre of tomorrow.

At least the equally hideous previous proposal had the decency to obscure the view of masshouse, this new proposal leaves us with a shit new building in front of a shit old building. City centre expansion FAIL.

First person to say "Not every new building in Birmingham can be as good as Selfridges or the Cube" gets a 300 word rant from me.

Shit building for the reject bin not really keen on going back to the 80's/90's thanks. I hope this get get rejected.

It's not even an average building Erebus - Not every building should look like a Sellfridges or Cube (and they weren't total successes themselves either) but at least we should have something that looks less drab on this spot.

This block looks like some kind on inpenetrable wall hiding Eastside completely away. The building does not draw you into it and attract you to what might be behind- It looks like some sort of Stazi accommodation site warding you off in the same way that Lloyd house might.....

On seperate note - will they be restricting this little road to buses only- was thinking abouth this the other day and it would make a lot more sense - cars have no real reason to head toward corporation street and it could also serve as a mini through route for the tram network expansion.

Don't worry Typhoon, I didn't mean that statement at all! I think this block is absolutely hideous. The least they could have done is give it some charm. Masshouse has the whole aquatic thing going on. This just has a colour palette identical to bird shit.

And similarly shit.

And more depressingly, this will be one of the gateway buildings from any new high speed station? Ugh.

I can't find anything positive about this.

It is simply awful.

plus i still cant understand how since the announcement of HS2, the developers of this hotel have reduced the size of the hotel. surely the prospect of having a large (and potentially) international station near them in the medium-long term is a good investment!??!?!?!

That has been going through my mind all day.

I think I will write to the developers first. I'll comment on the planning app when it is in.

There is one positive for me - it does relate better to the frontage of Island House than the approved scheme.

Still looks shockingly bland from the image above and concerned about the "dead" rear.

Being me, and being the most hated Bham Forumer on the Bham Forum and maybe CityTalk Forum,... I quite like this building, it could be a hell of a lot worse.

*Awaits the E-net abuse*

But do you concede that it could and should be a hell of a lot better?
