This particular shot of Honolulu actually reminds me more of Los Angeles around the Hollywood Hills area or the Brentwood or Pacific Palisades area.

It reminds me of a weird dream I had the other night. I was out walking and this well to do lady in this nice car picked me up. She said she was going my way but that she had to stop by her house first. It was in an area of Miami called Bloomingdales and it was kind of hilly and mountainous like that picture of Honolulu above and like parts of Los Angeles with houses near the tops of terraced hillsides. I told her, "I didn't know Florida had hills and small mountains like this." She said "It doesn't! The developers moved all this earth here to create this neighorhood and that is why the houses are so expensive." Don't ask how it is I have dreams like this.

You should learn more to get from south america, south america cities located in a desert one can speak of La Paz Bolivia.
It is true that Australia has cities that are similar to Miami, Honolulu in one way or another also has some resemblance to Miami as well as the Panama City has. It is important that the aspects are taken into account the profile of the city, the height of its skyscrapers and they are very important to one side of the beach. |

I think Miami will look like Londrina in another 25-30 years, which is the Skyscraper banner for today.

Gold Coast in Australia looks a LOT like Aventura/Sunny Isles---almost uncannily so since the weather (light, clouds, etc.) are nearly identical and so is the architectural thrust by all appearances. Both places pretty obviously got launched upwards in the 1980's---and it continues.
Doesn't look like downtown Miami, however. Perth does (in small ways) but it's WAAAY cleaner and more organized than any American city of any size---including Miami. You get the feeling even the homeless there are wearing creased shorts and Izods. Miami (to its credit) isn't do deodorized. Brisbane has a bit of Miami in it, but so does Tampa for that matter. Same weather...same basic layout. It definitely isn't Melbourne. Different climate and much more business-oriented skyline. Really, I don't think Miami looks all that much like anyplace except Miami. And that's a good thing. And it's GORGEOUS. Hartford and Cartagena, however...peas in a pod. How does anybody tell them apart? Hartford: ![]() Cartagena:

![]() That's the historic district of Cartagena; Bocagrande does look sort of Miamiesque, but overall they're not so alike image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() I find Panama City a bit more similar to Miami, but just on the waterfront. Panama City and Cartagena are more alike each other, than with Miami

Panama City, Cartagena and Miami
Having lived in both Miami and Panama City, each for more than a couple of years, I can tell you that Panama City only resembles Miami when you are flying in from about 10 miles away. When you walk around Panama City it has a very different feel to it. The areas that most closely compare are the Brickell area of Miami, and the Punta Pacifica area of Panama City.
The new Cinta Costera (Coastal Strip) project ( along Balboa Avenue) in Panama City is very well done and impressive, and is a little like Bayfront Park in Miami, however Bayfront Park has much more "Park" and less concrete. I was interested to see the photos posted here of Cartagena. I have never been there, and I was surprised to see how many tall modern buildings are along the water front. It appears to me that Panama City and Cartagena have the most similarities amongst those cities that are being compared. Especially since both have the "old city" and historical ruins ( 16th Century) within close proximity to the new city. See below, my most recent photo of Balboa Avenue (Avenida Balboa) which is made up of 5 photos joined together to make this "Panoramic" photo of the whole strip along the bay. Also a photo taken from the Destiny Tower, looking east along Balboa Ave. that shows the "Cinta Costera" park very well I think. Hope you find them useful. Panama City's skyline and Latin flavor combined with Honolulu's exoticness and diversity.
