Is there another Rajadhani starting from Ernakulam? Or you meant about the Trivandrum-New Delhi only, which originally had stop at Ernakulam only. Later on, stops started increasing - Calicut, Shoranur, Kannur and so on. But I don't think, there is nothing wrong as far as these trains stop at major points in Kerala, but should be limited to the minimum possible extent.

Oops sorry I mean Tvm - Delhi.

Marukil (is the former name for Malayinkil), Malayam is in Malayinkil.
Peyad belings to Vilappil Panchayat.
Vilavoorkkal is between Vilappil & Marukil (The road from Thirumala to Peyad/Thachottukave via Mangattukadave passes via Vilavoorkkal Panchayat). There is a road originating from the Mangattukadave-Thachottukave road and ending at the Pappanamcode-Malayam-Malayinkil road. All these locations belong to Vilavoorkkal.

Thanx for the detail info, Jaleel. You may be right. Anyway, let us wait and see whether Railways go for Kazhakuttam or Nemom from Nedumangad.

It is quite strange that Rajadhani Express does not have official stop at Kollam when it stops Kollam everyday for technical reasons. Peole can just see the train but cannot get inside. They have to travel down south to Trivandrum travelling 71 Kms or travel up north 142 Kms to Ernakulam Jun. to board the train. This is really ridiculous as the train stops everyday at Kollam Junction for technical reasons. Why cannot they give an offcial stop when the train actually stops at Kollam?

It cannot be considered a technical error as this error has not been rectified since a long time. Railways should know the important stations better than the others.

Rajadhani should have 5 minute stop at Kollam Junction. It is a long pending demand of Kollamaites. It is quite strange that a person from Kollam who has to travel to Delhi in the North should travel 71 Kms south to board the train when there is a major railway junction station exists at Kollam.

As TVM - kollam is a twin city i think it's fine to travel to TVM

Already there are 5 stops in Kerala covering a distance of 600km, averaging one stop per 120km.

Whereas overall Rajdhani travels a distance of 3150km and have 15 stops. That means average of only one stop per 210km.

In Kerala, we have two stops at Thrissur and Shoranur, hardly 30km apart. I guess, a long distance traveller will not bother if one of the above two stops be removed and more deserving Kollam be provided one.

Residents’ forum seeks development of railway stations on city outskirts

KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Residents’ Associations’ Apex Council (EDRAAC) has demanded that the Railways take urgent steps to develop railway stations located in the periphery of Kochi and to ensure that trains have brief halts here.

The demand comes in the wake of the suffering that passengers residing in the suburbs have to endure when they are forced to travel all the way to the Ernakulam Junction and Town railway stations to catch trains.

The council has also demanded that the Railways introduce better passenger amenities at the Ernakulam Junction and Town stations.

It blamed the Railways for lack of foresight in carrying out modification works in the Thripunithura railway station, and said that many portions of the station platform are in bad shape.

The Vanchinad Express, Island Express and Parasuram Express must be allotted stops at the station, since thousands of residents and people working in the BPCL-KRL, FACT (Kochi division) and many other industrial units would benefit from this. The eastern entry to the station must be developed and a new road linking it with the Seaport-Airport Road built.

The organisation’s president P. Rangadasa Prabhu demanded that a foot overbridge and a subway that could be used by pedestrians and motorists, be built at the Edapally railway station since it would turn into a major hub for trains once the Vallarpadam container project begins functioning.

Mattancherry terminus


The Aluva station needs roofing for the full length of the platform, a waiting room and toilets.

The station would gain prominence once the metro rail project is commissioned. He added that the development of the Mattancherry Harbour Terminus station would considerably help residents of West Kochi.

The other main demands include a ‘halt station’ at Ponnurunni, so that it would be of help to people who commute to Vytilla and the eastern parts of the city.

The EDRAAC expressed concern at the delay in commissioning platform six at the Ernakulam Junction and the inadequate number of ticket counters at the station as well as at Ernakulam Town station.

The eastern entries and approach roads to both the stations must be developed, so that commuters from the city’s eastern and northern parts would be spared the trouble of having to travel to the main entries located on the congested western side.

Plea to upgrade railway station



KOZHIKODE: The Malabar Train Development Action Committee has stressed the need to upgrade the West Hill station here. In a statement here on Tuesday, the committee appealed to the Minister to sanction a minute’s stop at West Hill for all express and mail trains going towards south. N.B. Krishna Kurup, general secretary of the committee, said hundreds of commuters using the West Hill station would benefit if the station was upgraded.

True.. As quoted below, once the MEMU services become operational, there would not be an issue of catching Rajadhani. If commuting from Trivandrum to Kollam won't be a problem, it would be the same on the reverse direction too

But it is quite queer to ask a guy to travel towards south around 70 odd Kms when he is supposed to go to the northern side 2000 odd Kms. It is not an issue if he is asked to board the train 50 odd Kms north.

Moreover, Kollamaites indeed go to Trivandrum to board flights to travel to Delhi. It is unfair to ask them again to travel to Trivandrum to board train to travel to Delhi when there is big railway station exists at Kollam. Moreover, the new trains start from Kochuveli station itself gives inconvenience to the southern Trivandramaites as there are no better facilities and connectivity.

People from the Varkala, Kadakkavoor and Attingal side are coming to Kollam to board long distance trains. When the norhtern Trivandramaites also depend on Kollam Junction to board most of the superfast train, the demand of Rajadhani Exress is more relevant.

Moreover, once the Kollam - Schencottah BG conversion is over, passengers from the Easter parts of Kollam district as well from Western Tamil Nadu will also depend Kollam Junction for long distance journeys. In this context, the demand for stop at Kollam Junction become more relevant.

I don't think it is of that a matter as it's not all train.. it's just one or two... which are superfast...

No point in asking unless.. there is a large human entry to those train from Kollam...

If there are enough entries from kollam.. I'm sure railway will think about it

You are talking about only one train from Trivandrum not stopping at Kollam whereas there are many that are not allowed to come south of Ernakulam.

Check out many express trains that start from Ernakulam to:
Delhi, Pune, Jaipur, Okha, Bangalore, Goa, Delhi, Guwahati, Dhanbad etc.

More bonanza for kerala

New Delhi, Thursday, July 09, 2009:

Kozhikode Railway station will also upgraded to world-class stations.

Kasaragod, Vadakkara, Tirur and Pattikkad stations would be made into ‘Adarsh stations’.

Commercial complexes will be developed in Thrissur and Alapuzha along with Palakkad and Ernakulam.

the Ernakulam- Jaipur would be extended to Ajmeer.
