Ha ha ha.... Even it is Nellai super fast express it too not keeping up the time sometimes. The one and only solution is by air... Vagaikulam Airport(On the way to Tuticorin from Nellai) which is about 20Kms from Nellai Jn.

Madurai Airport is about 140 Kms from Nellai. But Vagaikulam airport is just about 20 Kms from Nellai.
And we can easily get city buses and private city buses between Nellai Junction bus stand and Vagaikulam airport.

Years ago, when they were having, KTC and Nesamani - They used to have couple of nice buses to Chennai. I am NOT sure, if the TNSTC has bus service from Nagerkovil, Nellai to Chennai, since I am not actively using the bus for few years.

Mofussil services in Tamilnadu with comparative
figures of neighbouring States is given below:-
(In Paise per K.M.)

State Fare Mofussil Deluxe Super Ultra Air
Effective (Ordy) Deluxe Deluxe condioned
from
TamilNadu 6.12.2001 28 32 38 52 85
Andhra
Pradesh 7.1.2010 46 60 70 70 85
Kerala 8.3.2010 55 60 65 90 90
Karnataka 4.3.2010 39.70 72 - 91 110

Wow.. TN is not revised the fare since 2001?? I guess it may br true only with the Mofussil, they are keep increasing with different service names. But the fares are very cheap comparatively, and our ruling and oppsite parties are infamous of doing politics with this bus fares.

It is a domestic airport. It is not having good connectivity across India. Once the run way got extended then we can expect more flights and the state govt has planned to modernize the Airport.

Currently King fisher Airlines operating service to Chennai.

Every day the flight will arrive at 12:15PM and then it will leave after an half hour.

Paramount is planned to operate flights to various destination in India.

Thillai,
Chidambaram asked how many flights operated from Tirunelveli?
I am not against Tirunelveli anyway but Come on,Come to real world, even Madurai and Trichy dont have domestic connections other than Chennai and Bangalore. It will take some years for Tirunelveli (or Tuticorin??) to get more connections and let us hope for it.

The airport in discussion is the Tuticorin Airport... It is on Tuty - Nellai National Highway at about 4 kms from the Tuty Corporation Limits (which will be effective after the 2011 Local body elections) and it is around 30 kms from Nellai Town.. The airport has 1 daily service to Chennai during the day. The flight arrives at Tuty by 11:30 and leaves after an hour. The duration of the journey is 1:30 hrs....

In 2006 the service was introduced, due to a favorable pricing the flight was a hit among the local residents and it even got mentioned by their management for its near full capacity... Please read the same in the below link...the news article from 2006

http://www.hindu.com/2006/10/25/stor...2517780100.htm

Quote:
The introduction of a Tuticorin-Chennai flight was successful, with an average passenger load of 90 per cent. "Tuticorin is one of the most successful stories for us," he said. An additional flight for Tuticorin could be considered if night landing facility was provided at the airport.
I dont have any facts about the present day load factor.... The night landing facility in tuty never happened also, so the number of flights stayed at 1 per day....

AAI has requested TN govt to acquire land for expansion.... while the survey is done and the land is identified but without political push nothing is gonna happen... unfortunately Tuty doesnt have the political power to make things happen... so the airport expansion is all but a dream

Cheers!

Yeah Mr.Vignesh I too know the situation now. And I clearly mentioned that it is not having good connectivity. That airport is having only one flight per day.
And it will close by 5 PM every day.

That airport is not only for Tuticorin. It is mainly dedicated for Nellai and Tuticorin(for passengers and port purpose)

Because at 1986 only Tuticorin district is formed from Nellai district

From the tuticorin corporation limit it is 4Km.????? but it is a doubt.
As of my best knowledge from the heart of Tuticorin town it is nearly 20 Kms.

Both Nellai and thuthukudi having the same distance from this airport.

This airport is lacking in infrastructure.

I didn't communicate in such a manner to get connectivity across India.

It is a big dream project.

Once the runway get extended, then only we can expect this.

Until such time this is the only one flight connectivity between chennai-Nellai/Tuticorin.

Similar to salem I believe....

Exactly, thillai.....

Salem Airport also lacking infrastructures and facilities...... But the only difference is Salem airport has got lighting in runway, so that it can support night service.

Also, an article in hindu, expressed that Salem airport is utilised by 40% of passengers from Salem and 35% from Erode and other 25% from Namakkal & Dharmapuri dists. Since it is located at 25kms from Salem, 60kms from Erode, 35kms from Dharmapuri and 70kms from Namakkal....

Eventhough Coimbatore airport is located 85kms from Erode and 145kms from Salem, most of the passengers from Erode & Salem were using the Coimbatore airport only because of less facility, service and connectivity.

Thillai,

I wanted to correct your understanding of the distance of Tuty Airport from Tuty and Nellai...

Do you have google earth installed ? If not please do so and then use the "directions" features under the search option to calculate distance between 2 points in the map. If you have any other way to calculate distance between 2 points let me know and it will be useful for me / all.

I have done the same and I am posting the images... First Image is from Tuty to the Airport and the second image is from Nellai to Tuty Airport.... The distance as per Google is 16.7 Km(about 20 mins) from Tuty and 39.9 Kms (42 mins) from Nellai

Regarding your question on Tuty Corporation Limits... Please read below news....
http://www.thehindu.com/2008/08/06/s...0657430300.htm

Quote:
“The last meeting of the Council held a week ago passed a resolution recommending the Government for inclusion of nearby village panchayats of Sankaraperi, Pudurpandiapuram, Mappilayoorani, Tuticorin Rural, Milavittan, Ayyanadaippu, Korampallam, Athimarapatti, Mullakadu and Muthiapuram, when the boundaries are drawn,” the Commissioner said.
Tuticorin Rural's boundary is upto Pudhukottai which you can locate in the first image I have posted... you can roughly make out the distance from Pudhukottai to Airport, which is about 4 Kms... Again if you have any reliable source to measure distances between these 2 places please let me know.

Well Tuty Airport was built primarily to meet the needs of business community visiting Tuty Port and other major industries in the region... and ofcourse without mentioning it serves well the resident population of Tuty and Nellai districts because of the distance factor... Both Trivandrum and Madurai Airports are easily 1.5-2 hours away from this region...whereas this one is only 20 mins from Tuty and 42 mins from Tirunelveli....

Cheers!

Small correction..

Salem Airport is located at 21 km from Salem Old BS, 18 km from Central BS and just 12.5 km from Salem Corporation limit..

67 km from Erode via Sankari, Tharmangalam, Omalur (shortest route)

47 km from Dharmapuri.

“Vaigai Ratham” – Newly introduced Jnnurm SLFs @ Madurai.

Leyland SLFs were introduced with digital boards, Automatic doors. They came with white and blue liveries. To my surprise all the AL SLFs were built by IRIZAR TVS.

Marcopolos were introduced for the first time in madurai. Marcopolos came with orange and blue liveries. One yellow livery was also introduced. None of the marcopolos have digital boards. I donno whether they will fit it again or not.
Few of the marcopolo routes are 4, 14, 14B, 22A, 22, 48AD, 48, C1, C2, C3, C4, C9, C10, 44, 75, 71, 77B

Blue colored AL SLF in the route 48AT.
