Further, none of the divisions are interested in dumping buses to other divisions - it is the fault of TNSTC MDU (Tirunelveli) for picking up the old buses dumped by other divisions.

There is a practice of Transport corporations exchanging buses. Usually a new bus chasis is exchanged for two old buses. They had this practice in all Transport corporation including MTC. Now that MTC has stopped this practice. But i believe TNSTC MDU is still carrying on with it. TNSTC villupuram always gives away all the old buses to other depots and gets new ones. Since being profitable will keep on buying new ones from its own funds.

Good point! But, in case of TNSTC VPM, we havent seen new buses from other TCs. And TNSTC VPM is not getting new buses in the last 1.5 years contrary to the past track records.

And in general, two buses (even if old) is always better than one (new) bus - right? So, TNSTC MDU must be clever in running more services by using old buses.

Ya, TNSTC MDU is the least profitable division among the 5. So they naturally look to increase their profit for which increasing the quantity is d only way. Anyway they have to opt for buses only as there is no other go left for them, except for train in some places, that too only very few.

TNSTC VPM has operations from bangalore , nellore in the north to Trichy in the south. so it is a vast area. The new buses are used in heavy collection areas like chennai bangalore, chennai nellore, chennai TVmalai etc. Like wise it has to allocate replacements for the old buses . So the fleet strengh remains same. Further old buses involves constant maintenance and frequenctly breaks down when compared to new ones. Their life will be short maybe 4 to 5 years ..So who is clever

TNSTC MDU is at disadvantage as the route they ply on is usually unviable. The cities are far off and the buses make only 4 trips for eg Madurai to Tiruneveli is some 200 kms and the buses can make atmost 4 singles in a day. If the Frist and last single in the unearthly hours does not have suficient collection then the bus makes a loss. Further they cannot operate many Deluxe buses which will not accepted by people

Except for the colour everything is same. I have travelled both in MTC and BMTC volvo and didn't find any difference except for the fare which is twice as MTC. Except for MTC and TNSTC VPM there is nop volvo for other cities. The Volvo's were bought only as a status symbol for the capital . The AC bus requirements for other TNSTC's is taken care by Ashok Leyland coaches. They are infact really good and cheap . Especially the ones maintained by MDU and CBE are really well maintained. SETC ac ones are really patheic.

The mind set of our people should also change and they should be ready to pay more for the service and comfort.
TNSTC's should try to be profit oriented rather than Public service oriented like KSRTC/BMTC and try improve their fleet and financial condition. The govt can plan fares depending upon the region in which they operate,a differential system of fares would do better for the services in urban areas.

chennai-hosur around 120 rs from hosur to bangalore is rs 35 total-155

If you prefer TNSTC then you can take TNSTC VPM to HOSUR ( freq every 30 mins) or vellore( Freq 15 mins) . There are many TNSTC SALEM buses from there to lore ( Freq 10 mins) from Hosur.

I seriously doubt your view. KSRTC has fought for so many years to extend the service to Mysore. After much struggle they have acheived it. So given the high cost of the bus and collection in CBE and MDU , It will not feasible to operate Volvo. Further there will be agitation if there are high fare ( already people grumble for Deluxe buses) . People will not allow TNSTC to be profit oriented.

Spotted Pondy-Chennai Intecity Volvo at Pallavakkam, Bus was full to seating capacity and interior and seats were good for 3hrs travel!

I am not sure how Vellore, Villupuram and Hosur Volvos are doing. I would prefer Vellore Volvo to start from Adyar instead from CMBT.

Villupuram Volvo could start from Broadway.
