Wondering if any one has recently travelled through the route Narketpally > Nalgonda > Pidugurally and beyond. If so, any sign of progress upgrading this highway to 4-lanes......Ramky Infra and IL&FS achieved financal closure for this project in Jan this year and construction should have started immediately there after....appreciate any updates.

Planning to travel from Narketpally to my hometown Nalgonda in January 2012. Will post pictures after my trip to India. My uncle whose property is on this highway and who is going to loose his property because of this expansion says that work has started on this stretch. Don't know whether state government or NHAI is taking this expansion project.

The road is SH-2, and the expansion is under implementation by AP Road Development Corporation on behalf of AP state government. You can get detailed information on this site

Drove from Hyderabad to Khammam and back on 26th and 27th Dec.

Progress so far from Hyderabad upto Suryapet
--------------------------------------------
1)Main road of 4 lanes with central median structurally is in place in many locations.
2)Many places the road is also completed both sides though few bits are yet to be joined.Hence the traffic is currently flowing only on side of the road.Inspite of
traffic flowing on one side, the speed is quite high during daytime, atleast 80-100km per hour because of the width of the road and the quality of finish. Excellent construction.
3)Work in progress on service roads.
4)Work in progress on bridges.
5)Did not travel on Bypasses at Narketpally, Nakirekal but looks good progress as we drove past them.
5)Work in progress on roads within towns but bit slow compared to other areas due to obstruction and land clearance issues.
6)There is a railway crossing near Chityal and the underpass is yet to be started which could be the last piece to be completed.Probably waiting to get clearance from railways.
7)The bridge outside suryapet is in good progress. The pillars and few slabs are completed and the rest is in progress.

The quality of the road and construction is excellent. Not a single uneven or bumpy road whereever completed.Overall status of the project is very encouraging considering how much time we normally lose due to initial hurdles and bottlenecks.
I am pretty confident that this project is on target and good for completion in 2012 assuming Suryapet to Vij is also good.

Sorry could not take any pics as it was an emergency travel.

Gollapudi bypass

Whats is happening to Gollapudi bypass? Funds were approved for the same to connect Gollapudi to Gannavaram in vijayawada so that the traffic goes easily to machilipatnam and vizag also. No news on the same so far.

Actually the plan is to build bypass for NH-5 (old no), which starts at chinnakakini village (after guntur) and ends at gannavaram, while travelling from chennai side to kolkata side. At gollapudi the NH-5 bypass will cross the NH-9, they will built flyover here. So the traffic coming from Hyderabad side can use this as a bypass for vijayawada while going to Vizag.

Vijayawada Bypass is currenlty in e-tendering mode as per the NHAI website.
GMR should make every effort to get this project so that they can move their resources from NH9 expansion to build this bypass.

http://www.nhai.org/procurement_current.asp

ix- Laning of Vijayawada-Gundugolanu Section of NH-5 from Km 1076.48 to Km 1022.48 including 6-lane Hanuman Junction bypass ( length 6.72 km) and 4-lane Vijayawada by pass (Length-47.88 km) [Total length: 103.59Km] in the state of Andhra Pradesh under NHDP Phase V to be executed in BOT (Toll) mode on DBFOT basis.

e-Tendering Process: 24th Jan 2012(On e-Tendering Mode)

Guys, I arrived in India last week and travelled on NH-9 from Hyd to Narketpally and took the statehigway from Narketpally to Nalgonda. The progress on 4-laning of NH-9 is very hectic and the quality of construction is good. I have taken few pictures on this stretch and would like to post them. However, the size of the images I have taken is big and I am not able to upload them to imageshack. Will appreciate any ideas on how to reduce the image sizes.
Also, the 4 laning of the statehighway from Narketpally to Addanki is going on but the quality of work is sub-standard and these roads will not stand the scrutiny of heavy load lorries and traffic and rains and they will eventually be washed off or will have full of pot-holes. Pathetic .

It is not different. There is only one direct highway between VJW and HYD which is NH-9. This is getting expanded to 4 lane by GMR company.

Few more pictures.

This one taken just before Choutuppal on the way to HYD.
