Ok so here it goes

[clears throat]

I usually check the forum out when I have time. I'm currently working over the summer break so I log in in the morning from home and later browse through it at work. I don't log in or post from work coz of the fear of being shahid'd from my internship. So currently on weekdays I post when I get back from work in the evening. From August, I'll be logging in more frequently.

The Indian forum is quite disciplined and the post quality is decently high. If anything goes wrong when I'm at work, I believe that either of the two mods would be able to swiftly handle the incident at hand. This brief absence of mine every day till August shouldn't affect the forum. I'll work out a plan with the current mods so that at least one mod is online all the time. I'll also come out of the invisible mode so that people can notice my presence and feel free to contact me regarding any issues that they have.

besides moderating the forum, some of the things on my manifesto:

1. Better forum and content organization - renaming threads, make project info available on the first page of each infra thread. More on it here.

2. Brand building - more new interesting threads in the international sections to promote the nation. I'd look into perhaps forming a core team of members who can chip in.

3. Reviving the Heritage & Monuments section

4. Reducing clutter - sticky threads in the chaibar along with the threads at the bottom of the forum will be put into the new "India Forum Issues & Archive" subforum. This new name would be subject to approval by the mods and I'll ensure it gets approved.

5. Upholding the traditions of SSCi - I will not be a tyrant and will seek advice from the 2 gurus on moderation and before taking any "big" step.

6. Distributing free color tvs for everyone who voted for me.

j/k, I don't play dirty votebank politics.

Now I'm wondering if I even have a chance against IU

Well I would -

1. Delete unneeded thread

2. Delete of topic posts in threads

3. Stop arguments in threads

4. Increase activity

5. Like IU said revive History & Heritage and other subforums that a mostly dead.

6. Start more threads in international forum which I already do

7. I'll spread out more to maintain all subforums

8. You can PM if need anything done

9. I won't be distributing free color TVs for evryone who votes for me

My soap-box

Folks, I have had a bit of experience with polls and soapboxes but I will refrain from anything long and flowery, and boring.

As many of you know, I am involved with tall buildings and infra in my day job as well as in SSC, starting at about the same time as a matter of fact. I hope this will help me to add some value to discussions as a Mod as well as a senior forum member. I also have some experience in urban planning, development and policy.

Without getting into the details too much, here are a few things that I hope to do:

1. Being available as much of the time as possible for SSC activity so that together with Sun and Sudheesh, the best possible response can be delivered to SSC-ians.

2. Organising the thread and forum structure in the most-user friendly way possible.

3. Pragmatic adherence to SSC regulations and conventions.

4. Create more focus on sections like basic infrastructure, hospitality and tourism and heritage & culture.

5. Encourage a professional discussion forum to generate ideas from the rich SSC brain pool which could be deployed in the real world.

6. Try to evolve ideas with the participation of all of you to increase the interface between SSC and the community, be it promoting India across the world or in suggesting solutions to problems in urban development/planning.

Apologies if the soap-box fever got the better of me, but these are some of the things which I think we can do together.

Thanks in advance! Have a nice week ahead.

Cheers!

Ok.

Here I go. I know I wouldn't be any match for IU Or Ajay, but being a mod was one thing I would like to do in SSC. I am no Pranab or Lalu. So I have kept it plain and simple.

1.The SSC-India forum is excellent with lots of knowledge-proof people who are contributing to SSC-India and giving us updates.

2. Promise to keep the International Forums as much updated as I can.

3.My main focus as a mod is get rid of nonsense from many forumers. I am logged in SSC around 6-8 hours a day. So I can promise to remove unwanted posts and arguments in many other forums. I will try to access other sub forums which I don't usually do it as much as I can. Spammers will be warned and banned when necessary with the permission of other Senior mods.

4.The other thing I want to do is to redirect the new users of SSC-India to the Indian Forum Issues thread so they will know how to post images, articles, edit their posts, and uploading videos on Youtube. Hopefully, in case I am not online, other SSC members would follow suit.

5.I follow a policy, "Live and Let Live". So unless the person is acting like an idiot, I won't bug him.

6.Besides that, I will also focus on organizing the threads in the India sub-forum and the chaibar and delete the threads with the agreement from other two senior mods (Sudheesh and Sun). Similar threads will be merged into one.

7.We all are here to learn. So asking questions will always be encouraged unless it is rhetoric.

Thank you.

ok, I guess it'll take time to get a reply from sun,

Am posting my manifesto here. This is what I can do for our forumers if I'm voted
  • First and foremost, I can dedicate my time (I'm online for at least 8 - 10 hours a day in SSC) for a prompt response for fellow SSCians and to make forum as user friendly as possible. (Ofcourse with Sudeesh, Suncity and drwho [no more active I guess])

  • Start a 'Initiation' section (With all necessary stuff) for the newbies before they plunge into actual posting. This will avoid the so-called spammers, spoilers, etc..

  • Standard titles, proper information about the thread in its first post/page. Remove unnecessary sticky threads, moving dead threads to archive, etc. No sms, chat languages (credit: Zenith_suv) in threads except chaibar, etc

  • Reviving History & Indian Architecture section and creating new topics like "Civilizations of India, History of Transportation in India, Indian Architects, Architectural styles of India, Architectural Perception, Ornamentation, cyberspace, etc(after all this is an architectural forum )

  • Will also create a section/thread for our forumers to put in their ideas in creating a new thead, etc. (The Brainstorming section) and possibly a technical thread for each section under infrastructure.

  • Possibly creating a team of fellow forumers who can actually give some ideas as well as work together with me to start/update threads in International sections

  • Also including a thread for each of the following under infrastructure section - Tourism, Infrastructure Security, Communication & Geophysical Monitoring networks (satellites, meteorological stuff, etc), Waste Management, etc

  • No color tvs, 1000 bucks, etc... But I'll make sure that I deliver whatever I've promised

Hope I covered most [if not all] of the expectations!

Thank you guys! [mabbe bringing in new smilies like this ]

My "chunaavi muddas "

OK , Heres a small intro , followed by my activity at SSC India & my manifesto.

I Mihir, originally from Mumbai , am now doing my Post-Graduate studies in the US. I've been in the states since Jan 2008. Apart from Movies , music i have a great passion for news & current affairs . I love India very much & hence love tracking India's progress in various sectors [economy , agriculture, industry & technology , infrastructure ].

Me at SSC
I have been a member since a couple of years . I have always mentioned a steady & consistent presence in the forums. My contribution to the forum can be enlisted as follows:

1. Updating the forums with the latest development in each of the above mentioned sectors.

2. Participate in healthy , constructive debates with other members on contentious issues related to growth in India.

3. My most prominent contribution however would be posting pictures showing progress of the quite a few projects of Mumbai [towers, roads, & the Mumbai INtl airport] , taken during my trip to the city this January .

My agenda for the forum
1. Focusing on Agriculture, Public Health care , Education . Since the priority of the UPA Govt. has been the aam aadmi, it would be interesting to track the progress here.

2. Promotion of Indian developments in International Fora.

3. Encouraging productive discussions/debates amongst members , on all major issues concerning Infrastructural development .

4. Tourism & culture : Our forum can be a great platform for promotion of Indian culture & hence tourism.

5. Discipline in the forum : I am all for healthy debates , but without them ending in a fist-fight . No-tolerance towards personal assaults & racist / chauvinist comments.

6. Im online almost throughout the day [except offcourse when i'm asleep or on the road]. Hence id be available most of the time to monitor the community & to help members with their issues, if any.

If you want me to elaborate on any of the above points , feel free to ask me the same.

If someone is made a moderator once, is it not possible to remove him from the moderator post forever?

Actually he functioned mainly as the Asian Moderator and moderator in one of the news sections in the main forums. He also helped us out when needed.

He has not logged in for two months now and he left no message for either me or Sudheesh or RafflesCity. Which is very unlike him. I have contacted him again yesterday but haven't received any reply. Hopefully he is okay.

I would have preferred a poll that was more confidential.. and might have avoided people from seeing who is voting for who etc This way forumers might feel more confident voting ? I also would have wished there were some basic criteria for people being nominated to be eligible for the poll.

Anyways, I will refrain from voting, its just my personal choice, no offence to anyone.

We have had a discussion thread open for quite some time.

I think I mentioned that the voting will be 'open'. That way we know all who voted. This is mainly to avoid any future issues.

We will not count votes from forumers who have registered today, have very few posts, are not regular participants in SSC India. Sudheesh and my decision will be final in this regard and will be done in consultation with all the candidates. If we reject a vote, we will publicly say so with a reason.

We have only put in names of people who sent us a pm saying that they wish to become a moderator. The only person I am not sure of is ferrari_fan. He seemed to be interested only if India101 was. But he did not send us any pm. So I have not included his name.

Best of luck to all. Happy voting.

I've been travelling and I honestly didn't think I'd have much to offer as a moderator, other than reading through posts once a day and making sure no one was coming to blows, so I felt it made better sense to continue to enjoy the forums in the same way I always have till now..

All votes are visible to everyone. If any contestant has any issue with anyone's vote and they have a valid reason, then Sudheesh and I will take a decision on that complaint in consultation with all the candidates. And we will make public our decision and give a reason for it as well. I think that is fair enough.
