Is there such a thing as "socialist" architecture? Most of these buildings are either simple modernist, or brutalist, and can be found in all countries socialist or capitalist. This seems kinda redundant.

I don't agree with you, because socialist modernism is one of it's kind and you can find it only in former socialist countries. And there are variations of soc modernism in every socialist country. Although you're partially right when you say "Most of these buildings are either simple modernist, or brutalist", I still think that socialist architecture in general is quite different from the architecture in the capitalist countries from the same period.

Those are older photos, recently the hotel was renewed (new paint on the facade)... Still, the air condition units are ruining it's look.

It would look so much better without all that mechanical crap tacked onto it.

If they painted the inside squares a bright colour like orange, and the rest white, it would look like something out of Miami

This movie is named "Shpion" (English: "Spy"; 2012).

Unfortunately, I don't know about availability of English subtitles. Try something like this:

that doesn't look bad at all what could help it is by dropping the "Hotel" part and leaving "Uzbekistan", a new paint job and getting rid of that Garden Park banner at the bottom. I actually like it. Are there anny pictures of it at night?

These are pretty good living quarters. They are not intended for high living. Those are intended to be good standard affordable apartments.

You know, I kinda like the rusted look. Just fix the surroundings.

It has a really pretty mid-century modern facade of white concrete:

A nice but derelict piece of 60s architecture from Zagreb, Croatia:
"Cube," 1961

I hope it is restored one day. It's way better than any commieblock that gets renovated.
