If New Labour had been running the nunnery in The Sound of Music, would they have blown their whistles and handed the von Trapp family over to the Germans?

If New Labour had been running the nunnery in The Sound of Music, would they have blown their whistles and handed the von Trapp family over to the Germans?

(Labour MPS have voted to send Gary McKinnon to the USA to face 60 years in prison for 'terrorism'; they apparently did not bother listening to the arguments but voted with the party line.)

An inquiry would have been ordered afterward.

whereby all the officials testifying are revealed to have lied, but nothing happens because its important to move forward from mistakes rather than bring them up again and persecute people.

I've been wondering this for years.

I've heard Gary McKinnon on radio interviews and he seems like a nice bloke with a bit of a curiosity for NASA's UFO files. Give him community service.

This is the bizarre and lunatic problem. I don't understand why it was agreed to.

The American justice system is at least as fair as ours but this extradition treaty will lead to the lad being held in custody... and American jails can hardly be compared to their soft touch British counterparts.

The Germans would have found out they were there by finding a lost CD with all their data on it.

In the USA they would have given Gary Mckinnon a job with the security services.

Over here, the government is more concerned with keeping things sweet with the Americans than its own citizens.

what's worse is the treaty allows the extradition of people to the usa who are accused of committing crimes that are not crimes in this country and acts which occurred only in this country. an equivalent treaty with saudi arabia would lead to you or me being extradited for drinking. that's why countries NEVER extradite people for anything except if its illegal in both countries. this has however applied to over 60 people so far, not just mckinnon.

Government of the people for the people, by the people, my hairy arse

Tony Blair = Pieter Willem Botha (both are pure evil, ignorant stupid despots)
New Labour = National Party of South Africa (old)

and now Tony fucking Blair wants to be a president of EU, my god, he'd turn EU in to a massive concetration camp, and everyone would be required to pray to all mighty Tony Blair, he'd enact Big Brother state with Zimbabwe as model for the ideal form of society. Everyone would have to carry an ID, and carry it at all times, Police would have right to stop everyone for no reason and imprison anyone who even thinks of questioning Police or Tony's rule, and everyone would need to rename their newborns to Anthony as a mark of respect for the great leader.

On top of this, if you don't believe in God, or you think there is no such think as God, you'd be sent to Antarctica where Tony would build massive concetration camp for non-believers, Military would become subservient to the Police and would be required to enforce draconian polices of the Great Leader.

V for Venedeta is not that far off when I come to think of it, Tony Blair was turning UK in to a police state, well he did turn UK in to a Police State.

Yeah, well no.

Unless I missed something it's the USA that wants to keep him in jail for the next 60 years.

Perhaps not out to get us, but totally indifferent to our wellbeing when survival of the party is at stake.

As shown by the Gary McKinnon vote, publicly a lot of Labour MPs support his case but when it comes down to it, for most of the labour goons the party comes first. Essentially they are 'just following orders', which is pretty much what the home secretary said during the debate. to paraphrase him: hey I'm not a lawyer so I don't know much about this and can't really comment.

i think it's more like brazil personally. it's mostly incompetence, and then a total adherence to the rules which makes it impossible to fix the mistakes caused by the govt practises. they aren't this evil deliberately, they are too stupid.
